*available from Oct 2023* I am a mature, highly capable and easy-going mother of three grown-up children, as well as being an experienced junior primary school teacher and live-in carer. I am now seeking occasional companion based live-in work, preferably in central London. For the last 7 and a half years I have worked as a live-in carer for elderly people however most of my work experience has been in the teaching profession – I have run a home school for young children for several years, have taught in private and government schools – I have also been a part-time nanny. I am intelligent and responsible enough to cope with just about any situation while retaining a good sense of humour. I can be trusted implicitly to love, nurture and care for anybody dependent on me regardless of their age. I have an easy-going, friendly manner and get on well with people from all walks of life. I am conscientious and happy to get stuck in wherever needed and am not afraid of hard work. I am a competent cook and really enjoy preparing tasty meals. I am also very happy to mind animals in any care-giving job.
I have recently submitted my dissertation on childhood obesity in the U.K. as part of my work towards a Masters degrees in Public Health. Throughout this course I’ve learnt a lot about health promotion, prevention and intervention. However one of my favourite areas or modules was the ethical issues in healthcare because of my previous experience in relation to the capacity of a patient and tailoring the service to fit his needs in order to make it a holistic service as opposed to a service that only covers some of his needs. At the moment I have my a lot of availability in the day and I want to continue to use it to provide support services for those who need it the most. I am very hands on, a team player, a good communicator and listener, a good manager of time and resources amongst other things. I also am very patient in my approach to working with service users and friendly.
I am hard working, well-motivated, enthusiastic individual with a flexible approach to work and willingness to learn new skills. I have the ability to adapt to a new environment and can use my skills and knowledge to positively contribute towards any working situations. I am a reliable, honest and trustworthy individual. I am able to work under pressure effectively and efficiently both, as part of a team and alone. I am an excellent communicator, confident in dealing with people from all walks of life. Ambitious and focused whilst appreciating the need to remain flexible, I speak and write fluently in Portuguese and can converse in Spanish. I have a multicultural background which, I feel, would enable me to deal sympathetically and efficiently with service users My role as caregiver has enabled me to develop a good understanding of patients/service users with mental and physical health needs and requirements. My responsibilities involve assisting the residents with day-to-day care without making them feel completely inadequate of looking after themselves. My experience as a carer enabled me to acquire guidance and referral skills, which will contribute towards my success as a care coordinator. I feel that the experience I have gained in previous roles as a care/support worker, would allow me to adapt in any settings. I have gained health and safety training within my caring background, and I am able to provide a hygienic and safe environment for the patients. I am also fully capable of preparing meals and handling of the domestic tasks that are required of me. Caring for someone with mental health, physical and behaviour problems bring unique challenges. I recognize that it is important for those who are in my care know that they can trust me while still being able to take the direction that I am giving them. When delivering waking and sleeping I am flexible on what nights I can do, but I am only looking for 2/3 nights per week.
I am a kind, patient, compassionate carer and enjoy working closely with others, especially older people. I have been working with people with dementia, mental health, and Parkinson’s. I also have experience with anxiety and depression. I became a professional carer just after my mother passed away in 2020, during Covid. I feel it’s important to provide support and promote independence for older people in their own home. Before I became a carer I worked as a Reflexologist, beauty therapist and hair and makeup artist. I enjoy cooking, arts and theatre, music, movies and nature. Please do get in touch if you think I could help you. Look forward to hearing from you.
