"I have been a carer for around 15 years. I enjoy the role as I like to make a difference to people’s lives and provide an excellent standard of care to all my clients. I have worked effectively with dementia clients by observing and assessing where I can make things easier in the home for them, allowing them to continue to be as independent as possible while still providing guidance when needed. I fully encourage independence in the home if I believe a client has the capacity to do so. My preparation and cooking of meals is excellent, as I can easily adapt to different dietary requirements. I am gluten-free and soya-free, so my knowledge and understanding of this is extensive. I am able to communicate well with clients and form a sustainable bond with them. Being a great carer involves understanding individual needs, assisting with their daily routines, while ensuring they have choices and that care plans are person-centred, allowing input from the client about how they would like their daily needs met. My experience enables me to recognise when clients are unwell, anxious, or feeling low. My own son suffers from severe anxiety, so I have developed effective strategies that help provide clients with a calm environment. I will encourage social interaction if this is requested by the client; I can source local clubs, groups, day centres, and meetings, and arrange transport for the client to join. I possess excellent communication skills and can liaise well with medical and healthcare professionals on behalf of the client. I am always eager to learn new skills and will accommodate both male and female clients, as well as couples (couples' rates would be slightly higher), and I love pets and have no allergies to them. "Hello, my name is Shashi. I have four years' experience as a carer/live-in carer. I am kind, caring, and compassionate. My aim is to provide the highest quality of care for the elderly. Recently, I cared for a 91-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, and dementia, as well as a 98-year-old lady with dementia, providing her full-time carer a break on a relief basis. I provide: • Companionship – sharing conversation and spending time together • Personal care – assisting with bathing, dressing, and, when necessary, continence support • Helping with mobility – some clients need assistance getting around the home • Overseeing medication – all according to the client’s care plan • Household chores – help around the home, such as vacuuming or washing clothes • Preparing and cooking meals • Running errands – assisting with tasks such as shopping or picking up prescriptions Here’s some feedback from one of my referees: "Shashi provided 24-hour care; she was responsible for all nutritional needs and administration of Mum’s medication as required. Shashi did all the washing and household chores; she was great companionship for Mum and myself during what was a stressful time for my husband and me. My longest live-in care position was for 15 months, during which I cared for a 91-year-old man with Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, and dementia. In my role as a live-in carer, I have: • Set up and kept under review a client-specific care plan • Provided meals, fed the client, and given them their medication • Provided personal care, including incontinence support, showering, and dressing • Carried out a range of housekeeping tasks, including cleaning, washing, laundry, cooking, preparing his meals, administering and ordering his medication, and arranging doctors' appointments and medical checks. My hobbies include cooking and entertaining dinner guests. I enjoy reading, journaling, and meeting up with friends in my free time.
