A qualified nurse (Johannesburg General, South Africa), I have been a live-in carer for over 3 years in the UK. I also provided care for my late brother (cancer) and mother (stroke) in South Africa. English is my mother tongue, I am also fluent in French and Afrikaans and have a smattering of other languages. My clients seem to enjoy my gentle nature, sense of humour and good cooking skills. I like being busy and am happy to fit into any household with efficiency, calmness and a friendly face.
I am a kind, passionate, friendly, empathetic soul. Working in care on and off since the 1990's. This was within hospitals, care homes and more recently live in care. Recently I looked after 3 different clients in their home. This was in many situations, including a millionaires house. The people I have helped look after over these years have been very varied. From patients with broken bones, to cancer, copd and more. As well as this I've worked on mental health wards, in some challenging places. My hobbies are watching football, movies, series. I also like to walk, travel and like photography and art. I love music and going to concerts. I got into care as I have looked after my ex partner who had mental health issues and helped look after my grandmother, when I had time , as she lived away from where I lived. I thankyou for taking the time to read this and hope I can be of help to you.
I am a prospective experienced conscientious Registered nurse with expertise in the provision of exemplary care to maintain the health safety and develop of geriatric, young and old patients with complex health care needs. I am a Registered General Nurse operating with meticulous attention to detail, versatility, enthusiasm and a steadfast devotion to the nursing profession. Having holding a PgDip Adult Nursing Studies, I believe my educational background alongside with my life experiences have given me a very diverse range of transferable skills and attribute that are directly transferred to this profession. Moreover, with my extensive knowledge of health care service and highly experienced in delivering quality care to individual, also have the ability to formulate patient care plans in conjunction with different health care settings. I am able to demonstrate strong leadership qualities with the ability to conduct patient assessments supervise the provision of safe compassionate care and evaluate care effectiveness. Alongside holding a PgDIP Nursing Studies I have completed GNVQ Health and Social care course which was a two year course. This course has improved my knowledge and understanding of working with vulnerable people and the entire community in relation to safeguarding and promoting equality and diversity among patients. Prior to this I have also achieved a good standard of education through my Degree in Forensic Science and Sociology which I completed with an upper second class grade at Manchester Metropolitan University. This degree course incorporated the many different aspects involved with Human Biology. I demonstrate strong leadership qualities with the ability to conduct patient assessments supervise the provision of safe compassionate care and evaluate care effectiveness. I am an individual who act with integrity and in the best interest of patients while ensuring compliance with trust policies and NMC guidelines to promote ward efficiency who thrives to take up a position of Staff Nurse within health care settings. I am eager to learn new skills and increase my knowledge as much as possible within this sector. As my job requires me to work within a team as well as alone, I have developed the ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively However, during my previous work I have been given the opportunity to participate in-house training courses to further and assist my role as a care assistant. I have worked as a care assistant for over seven years in different health care organisation settings. My duties included assisting service users in meeting their physical and emotional needs and promoting their independence .The service user groups I have worked with includes older people with dementia, young adults and older people with both learning and physical disabilities in general medical wards, residential homes and in their own homes. My other roles were to administer medication and provide safe environments for the patients. I did this by being kind and communicate effectively with patients. This enabled me to build rapport and engage with patients and they openly shared and raise their concerns about their needs. This also gave me the knowledge that improved my caring ability and have a courage to find new ways of caring. This enabled me to have knowledge and a better understanding of the current relevant legislations such as the Health and Social Care Act 2012 that became into practice in 2013 when working with patients in the NHS. As part of my work I had also have an experience of working with adult patients in both the acute wards and in the community. This gave me the opportunity to carry out effective nursing observations of acutely ill patients and risk assessments for patients who are on admissions. This enhanced my skill in providing reassurance to patients who were confused or feeling anxious about their health care needs. I also attended the Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) whereby different healthcare professionals and agencies share information in relation in promoting health, wellbeing and assessment of continuing health care needs of the patients. I also contributed to the strategy meetings regarding initial assessment, which different agencies from different organisation attended; this increased my confidence and knowledge in multi-agency working team. I was able to actively engage with professionals in the conversations regarding the assessments and challenge the different viewpoints and perspectives given by other professionals; this has then increased my knowledge and thoughts on different issues and perspectives on the improvement of quality of care to the patients. Through my interaction with older people, I have gained experience and knowledge from patients that they have to take an active rather than passive role in any assessments that I have undertaken with them. This also empowers people to either live independently or to make informed choices regarding issues about their health and social needs that they are experiencing. In addition, I also had the opportunity to work and advocate for mental health patients exhibiting risky behaviours such as disengagement and withdrawal from medication. The initial assessments gave me the opportunity to develop my knowledge of the assessment process, report writing skills, documentation, and these overcome personal insecurities about my writing abilities. This also enabled me to fully understand how to integrate principles of the Mental Health Act (1983) which places the hospital admission of the people with mental health at paramount into practice and identify areas of need and services required to meet their needs. My work and educational background has enabled me to work effectively in a team because I openly shared information about patient’s health concerns, other issues and extra support needed with other staff members. This enabled me to work with a range of professionals from the private and public sector. I was also involved in reports and care plan writing, filling incidents forms as approval of delivering the right care to the patients. This enabled me to have effective communication and improves both my verbal and written communication skills which enabled our team to work together effectively in providing care in a person centred way. I also worked in the assessment ward for mental health people, I was actively involved in the taking observations of patients, such as blood pressure, temperature this has increased my knowledge and enabled me to deliver high quality of care to the patients. This enhanced my ability to show compassion, make decision and create safe supportive environments. I can describe myself as a caring person who is keen to help vulnerable people who are shunned by the society. As a registered nurse, I always work showing empathy and respect patient dignity as well as their values. I did this by respecting their dignity regarding their choices of receiving care. This also enabled me to have the knowledge of the importance of keeping confidential information about the patient. I am always keen to learn new skills and to increase my knowledge to keep up to date with new advances in technology. I have excellent experience in paying attention to fine details. I have a high ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively whilst maintaining a good mental attitude. I am a positive individual who is trustworthy, self- motivated, enthusiastic and courageous. I always strive to achieve a very high standard of whatever tasks I am undertaking. I have the ability to communicate with others on all levels along with great team playing skills, as I believe these are paramount to any working environment. I am also able to prioritise my own work so as to make efficient use of time and other resources. I have knowledge and experience of Windows 7, MS Word, MS power point, Microsoft excel and access, using EPMA in the safe administration of medication, using patient track in monitoring vital signs, neurological observations, fluid balance chart et, using email and the Internet.
My name is John (Ioannis). I am of Greek heritage, but born and educated in Zimbabwe and South Africa. I have a university degree in economics and management and I have operated my own financial consultancy for 17-years. I am a Commissioner of Oaths. In 2021 I emigrated to the UK in order to acquire the right to reside here so that my children could join me from Zimbabwe. Once here, I was offered a position with a caring agency in England as a live-in carer for a refined lady of 96-years who had suffered a stroke the previous year. She was wheelchair bound although her other faculties were unaffected. I was one of two full-time carers undertaking all normal caring for the lady. I also administered the household, provided companionship for her and did all the cooking and driving. I was with her for 2-years and then moved to Scotland to be near my sister and her family. I am currently a member of a team of carers, caring for a gentleman suffering from advanced MS. During the past 18-months with him I have gained additional experience in hoisting, supra-pubic catheter operation and maintenance and PEG feeding. For the past 3 months I have been in full-time employment with my local Council as a Community Care Officer providing daily care services to up to 16 different service users suffering from a variety of health conditions.
