"My name is Miriam. I am a mature carer with over 15 years of experience in the care sector. Originally from Zimbabwe, I was a teacher for 14 years before relocating to the United Kingdom in October 2000. I have supported the elderly, couples, singles, and disabled individuals with varying health conditions in their own homes, allowing them to remain independent for as long as possible. My first client was a student at Aston University in Birmingham who had cerebral palsy. My goal has always been to make a difference in someone's life; if they had one hand, I would be the other hand they wished they could have. While I cannot be perfect, I strive to be of help. I have experience with PEG feeding, catheters, personal care, feeding, transfers using different equipment such as hoists, triangular boards, and slings. Additionally, I have provided end-of-life care, support for individuals with MS, and assistance with showering, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, medication management, shopping, ordering medication, and companionship, among other duties. I am allergic to animal fur, so I cannot use pillows filled with feathers. I cannot support smokers as I struggle with cigarette smoke. In conclusion, I would describe myself as kind and patient, but also cautious in maintaining the rules and regulations of care ethics. In my free time, I enjoy reading, gardening, walking, eating out, watching television, going to the cinema, swimming, attending church, singing hymns, playing instruments like the organ and keyboard, and travelling, including going on holidays."

"I have worked with people with dementia, cancer, autism, end-of-life care, those requiring oxygen, stoma bags, tube feeding, diabetes, and disabilities, and I have extensive experience in care. Growing up, I had a brother who couldn’t help himself in any way, so we used to do everything for him, and I learned about care from an early age. This has fostered a deep compassion within me. I love my job, knowing that I am making a difference in someone’s life every day."
