I have been in care work for 8 years in both residential home and private homes in a family setting. I have gained varied experience in that time supporting vulnerable young adults and elderly people in their homes. I was inspired to do such work as a consequence of helping to care for my autistic sister and helping care for my disabled brother in law. I care deeply about the work that I do and gain great job satisfaction from helping and improving the quality of life of the people that I care for. I am reliable ensuring that what needs to be done is done and is done to a high standard. I am empathetic, patient and compassionate. Weekend rates - £20ph
My first experience of working in care was during my schooling when I key-worked a pupil living with dyspraxia and supported others with reading. This early start continued through volunteering in a local care home before university and working as a Home Carer primarily for the elderly during my vacations and as a residential Carer for adults with learning difficulties. My life then took a totally different direction and I worked in the corporate world for 20 years finally as an HR Director. Choosing early retirement (it really was early I’m currently 47) has enabled me to return to my passion of caring once more and had the privilege of working with a care company for almost 2 years. In that time I achieved my Care Certificate and met many lovely people along the way with differing needs; advanced dementia with double incontinence; palliative care of someone with bowel cancer and body wide secondaries up until hospice admission and those with age related physical limitations. Since leaving this company I have worked in a Consensus owned residential care facility for adults with complex learning difficulties supporting the individuals there to live their best lives. Both companies are great with training so I am up to date with all regulatory and additional training. Food can often become a chore for individuals and I enjoy making food enjoyable by involving them in the decision making and cooking process as much as possible. I enjoy gardening at home and where possible spend time with those that like to doing light gardening or visiting garden centres. When it comes for quieter times, reading aloud or sharing puzzles can be relaxing way too spend the time as can a good chat. I’ve travelled extensively so can usually join in with anecdotes on the places we have in common and love to learn about new ones.
I have been a carer for over 20 years now, I started out working in care homes and doing domiciliary care. I worked as a supervisor for 2 years within a hospital. I have working with people throughout the years with different types of situations e.g. disability, elderly, end of life, dementia and spinal injuries. I have always treated all of my clients with respect and dignity in order for me to provide their care effectively. I enjoy being a carer.
My name is Sarah and I have been a carer for 8 years to people with learning disabilities. I then went on to do my nurse training in mental health and further study in public health nursing. I have decided to become a personal assistant/ carer again as I've realised that I love this type of work most and enjoy making a difference in people's lives. I recently gave up my full time post as a public health nurse to care for my father who had dementia. Unfortunately he passed away due to covid but I actually loved spending this time with him and although this was cut short it has made me understand what I really want to do with my career now and become a carer again. I have gained many skills and knowledge over the past 20 years working with the NHS. My background is mostly working with people in mental health, learning difficulties, and dementia care. I am very hard working and will support anyone as if they are my own family and recognise peoples needs are very unique and tailor my approach to care on a very individual basis. I have two children aged 10 and 14 one of which has a mental health condition. I love to go for long walks, cycle and run. I enjoy travelling when able to and I also like gardening.
