I have attained my Level 3 Adult Care Diploma, completed Care Certificate and experience administering medications and feeding via a PEG, catheter care, bowel care, paralysis. Have experience of caring for clients with various needs including; dystonia, dementia, stroke, aphasia, end of life. My commitment to caring for others to ensure their quality of life is enhanced. My role as a carer gives me huge satisfaction when I am able to provide the help and support that is needed and my clients feel valued and safe in my care. Caring and supporting others has always been important to me and I looked after teenagers and teenage mothers and their babies in my own home for approximately 10 years. I have also been a live in housekeeper/companion for an extremely large family home in Somerset for approximately a year. A former police constable and now primarily interested in supporting clients needing care and or companionship. I would consider working longer shifts more locally on a regular daily basis please feel free to ask as I can be fairly flexible. Confident caring for pets and children! I have old fashioned values and a sense of humour. I also have an enhanced DBS which can be viewed on the DBS Update Service. I started working as a live in carer prompted by the death of a friend supporting clients mostly suffering with some form of dementia, bariatric, amputee, stroke and palliative care. I also have experience of working in the community and in care homes as a carer. My support has involved personal care, PEG feeding, medication, catheter care, stoma, assisting with dressing, encouraging to drink and eat, preparing meals and feeding, hoisting with colleagues, transferring with a turntable, use of slide sheets, transferring to wheelchairs, shopping and driving to appointments, friends and scenic drives in the countryside, (I have business insurance on my vehicle) meals out, reassuring dementia clients, making appointments on behalf of client, communicating with families, keeping accurate relevant, detailed records including medication. I would be happy to undertake any extra training necessary to support a client. I am a safe competent driver having passed my test in the police force, experience with wheelchairs, transfers into and out of vehicles, business insurance and a clean licence. My interests and hobbies include: gardening, cooking, visiting historic homes and gardens, dog walking in the countryside, reading and local history.
