I have looked after individuals with dementia, cerebral palsy, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, frailty, limited mobility, multiple sclerosis and spinal injuries. I am confident in hoisting, catheter care and assisting with personal care needs. Mindful of my responsibility in caring for vulnerable individuals in their own home, I keep house clean and safe as if my own. I am also aware that I may be interacting with family members who have their loved one’s best interests at heart. I can say that I am laid-back and low profile but proactive with a can-do attitude. In general, I am calm, patient, conscientious, attentive, trustworthy, reliable and communicative. Background My parents were Greek. I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa where I attended the University of the Witwatersrand to study Public Administration and International Relations. I have been a carer for six years. I hold an enhanced DBS and I update all my carer training every year. I am English, brought up in Sussex, but have lived, taught (English as a foreign language), raised two daughters in Greece over the past 35 years. I am very energetic, well educated, able to think around things and get things done, love nature and animals, yoga, painting, walking, writing and reading. I speak Greek and am extremely interested in other cultures. I lived and worked as a teacher in Saudi Arabia for a year and a half and I have written several children's books. I follow a plant based diet so I cook dairy free but love cooking generally and can cook excellent Greek, Indian and British food. My success as a carer has been because I am willing, friendly and capable of doing anything I'm required to do.I have had experience with many different clients ranging from those recovering from falls, to early dementia or just companionship and the security of having someone to help with everyday living. I am efficient and able to run a house smoothly. I enjoy looking after any pets or animals that a client may have. I love being outdoors, gardening or walking. I prefer a position that is companionship and light medical, which involves household duties and any shopping. I do drive but prefer not to have unless absolutely necessary, as I'm used to driving on the other side of the road to the UK. Having said that, I am willing to drive but not on motorways. I am generally very positive and calm which I think is an important part of being a carer. I believe in respecting the clients privacy in their own home whilst at the same time being supportive and available for their every need. I am available for respite care( if the permanent carer/family member needs a holiday) or for three to four weeks at a time. Ideally part of a rotation with another one or two carers is what works well for me as my permanent abode is in Greece.
I consider myself as we practised in the delivery of the care in assistance to clients to encourage individual development.I feel I have through working knowledge of the care legislation including good practice, health and safety standards and safeguarding policies.skilled in the creation and modification of health and care plans based on individual requirements.I personally feel encouraged to have a positive effect on service users.I have broad spectrum of care in various settings and good comprehension of caring for young people and individuals with special needs and/or mental health conditions as a result of many years of experience.I feel I am confident knowledgeable working.
