I am a professional with 15 years of experience in the medical and health care disciplines. Throughout my studies and career I have developed extensive interpersonal skills and I have excelled in activities related to problem solving and teamwork. I have several years work experience in dementia care, learning disabilities care. I have health and social care Diploma level 2 besides my job. My hobby is the cooking also like to travel and discover some new countries histories and cultures. I like to do daily regular exercise to keep myself healthy.
Hi, I'm Ingo, I am pleased to participate in the Curam platform, in this case as carer, but I frequently recommend it to potential clients. I am able to work across the mainland UK within 3 week cycles of availability, I provide live-in, overnight care but not hourly. I'd describe myself as an incidental, yet qualified carer, my forte is the facilitative end of the care spectrum, I consequently find myself helping people tailor care packages, petition for funding, find resources etc, as much as myself delivering care. I have 20 years of direct client/patient work experience across disability, rehabilitation, mental health, therapy and treatment services and my care experience has spanned young adults to end of life clients. I am a member of The National Association of Care and Support Workers and follow their national code, as a grounded, principled way of working: Working with Skill & Competence A Commitment to Personal Growth & Development Working with Integrity & Respect for the Law A Commitment to Respect & Dignity I have: • A positive, mindful and kind nature • Dedication to the job • An understanding that everyone is different, hence with different care needs • Patience • Punctuality • Good conversational and communication skills • Initiative • Good listening skills • Ability to follow direction • Full driving licence – clear DBS A host of additional people and health and care related skills around planning, delivery of care and supporting/motivating clients. • Help with personal care tasks including; washing, dressing, toileting, changing pads • Preparing meals/Feeding • Dispensing medication • Household tasks such as cleaning, laundry or gardening • Help with shopping • Assistance to attend college or work • Driving (a wide range of adapated vehicles, I persionally own/drive a 5 tonne wav) • Helping a person to participate in hobbies or holidays. • Assisting with paying bills or other household management • Helping gain access to a doctor, dentist or hospital appointment • Random facilitation - e.g. configuring a new computer or mobility aid I also produce immersive media (vr) and have projects in the health and disabilities/assistive technology fields, ongoing direct client work directly informs this.
I have been a Healthcare Assistant with an NHS Trust for 17 years, both within Psychiatric Intensive Care, Forensic and Dementia Assessment Units, as well as providing cover for Residential support and Adult Acute wards. Within this time, I have dealt with many aspects of challenging behaviour and have been privileged to be involved with many service user's paths to recovery. I have looked after people with substance abuse issues and clients with Schizophrenia, depression and many other mental health diagnoses. My most recent position, working with acute dementia patients has been by far the most rewarding of my time in mental health care and has given me a greater knowledge base in physical care. I have 1 year's experience in live-in home care, during which, I had extensive experience in dealing with palliative care. During my time working for the Trust, I have been part of the team which was key in implementing the Care Zoning Process which was introduced Trust-wide before being presented in America, and have developed an interest in therapeutic interventions, such as helping clients achieve an understanding of their daily living skills, an understanding of a healthy diet, and helping them to recognise and develop any skills or interests they have beyond this. It's important to me that a service user recognise they have an identity that surpasses the sum of their mental or physical health diagnosis and helping them to embrace this can have a positive impact on helping them to achieve and maintain social inclusion. I consider myself a valued member of the team and, have always been able to slot in well on all the wards I have worked on, and whilst I have no desire to embark on my nursing training, I consider the post of Healthcare worker a valuable position in it’s own right. My strengths in working with one-to-one care, my close collaborations with the Occupational Therapy Department, and my ability to think on my feet, are traits that I am well known for. I have a natural passion for care, am compassionate toward my clients and have a calming personality for managing a client's agitation or anxiety. My experience, over the years, has led me to recognise the Live-in Care would be an ideal progression in which to fully implement the skills I have developed during my time working in the NHS. Having a close-knit family myself, I also recognise the value of home care in enabling the client to preserve the home life they richly deserve rather than having to face the upheaval of a residential home or long term hospital admission. Outside of work I have an avid interest in travel. I am an independent backpacker and try to travel at least once a year, as I enjoy experiencing the culture and often find that travelling 'off the beaten track' introduces basic challenges and experiences that a package holiday often will not. I feel that getting back to basics often provides me with a healthy and liberating balance away from work. I also occasionally work as a portrait artist but have not to date pursued this fully as I find my work in care far more rewarding, but still enjoy my creative pursuits on a personal level. I hope this statement gives an idea of both myself as a carer and who I am on a personal level, and I would be more than happy to expand on this further if I am considered as a candidate for this position. Thank you for taking the time to read this, Karen
