‘DBS’ stands for ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’.
A DBS check is essentially a report of somebody’s criminal record.
The equivalent in Scotland of a DBS check is a PVG check and in Northern Ireland it is NI Access check.
There are different types of DBS checks, but they will all report spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings.
They are also referenced for roles where people work with children and vulnerable adults such as in schools and care homes.
DBS checks are a tool to try to ensure a safe and protected environment.
All carers on the Curam platform have to have a basic DBS and we recommend carers on the Curam platform to be on the DBS online service.
