I started my career working in domiciliary care, undertaking daily visits to clients in their own homes. In this role, I also worked closely with a multi-disciplinary team that included nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and general practitioners. I currently work as a support worker, supporting people who have learning disabilities and mental health concerns. I am passionate about enabling my clients to live life to the fullest and being as independent as their condition allows. This role allows me to work with people who require very little support day to day, such as finances and shopping as well as people who require full 24-hour packages with two support staff. Throughout my varied career, I have completed care-related NVQ level 2 and 3 qualifications and I have become competent and confident in the following skills: -Palliative care -Medication administration -Accurate record-keeping and auditing of documentation -Writing and reviewing care plans as part of a multidisciplinary team -Catheter care, I have been trained for individual clients by a district nurse and am willing to have specific training for prospective clients as required -Stoma care, I have been trained for individual clients by a district nurse and am willing to have specific training for prospective clients as required. I’ve worked in the hospital and this is where I gained most of my knowledge, training and experience and this is where my passion and motivation grew tremendously in caring for others. I have always taken caring very seriously and as such have devoted myself not only to ensure the health of the patient but also their happiness.
