In my current role at The Priory Ticehurst via an agency, I have gained valuable experience in delivering patient care, monitoring vital signs, scoring NEWS, performing ECGs, and observing and monitoring the well-being of patients, ensuring that any unusual physical, mental, or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff/the primary nurse and documented appropriately. I provide specific interventions to patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse, following training and competency attainment. These interventions include observation and engagement with patients, escorting patients on leave, and being involved in the de-escalation and management of violence and aggression. I assist qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed to facilitate the well-being, dignity, and treatment of all patients. I also assist in maintaining ward cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policies and procedures at all times.
I excel in maintaining accurate patient records and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients. I am proficient in providing inpatient care, including activities of daily living and mobility assistance. Furthermore, I possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients and their families. I can demonstrate effective communication skills with people whose understanding may be impaired and establish and maintain both verbal and written communication regarding routine and operational matters. I communicate in a sensitive and reassuring manner and can demonstrate communication and engagement skills with distressed or disturbed patients while working empathetically and compassionately. Additionally, I have comprehensive knowledge of infection control practices and the ability to maintain a clean and safe environment. I am a dedicated advocate for patient rights and dignity, with experience in providing personal care, dressing wounds, and utilising electronic health records for efficient documentation. I currently work at The Priory Hospital Ticehurst House, which is an acute hospital that supports people with the following challenges: acute mental health issues, complex mental health needs, physical disabilities, eating disorders, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, self-harm, sexual offending, substance misuse, schizophrenia, and violence and aggression. I have experience working independently and understand the importance of teamwork in healthcare, consistently demonstrating my ability to work cohesively with other professionals to provide the best care possible.
Moreover, I understand what Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 observations involve, e.g., the frequency of observations and the type of contact with the patient. I understand the importance of completing random and intermittent Level 2 observation checks while ensuring they are relatively evenly spaced within the hour. I understand the documentation related to patient observations, including the significance of individual care plans and risk assessments, and can demonstrate how to record observations accurately and promptly. I understand the reasons for therapeutic observation and engagement within the current setting and can explain ways to achieve this. I am able to describe and assess a patient's mood, thought content, and behaviour using appropriate language.
