"I have worked as a Community Care & Support Worker for over fourteen years within a domiciliary/independent living community. I have also worked as a Lone Worker covering night duties for over ten years. I provide a person-centred approach to supporting and caring for residents, meeting their individual care and medical needs as outlined in their care plans. This includes personal care, toileting, administering medication, stoma and catheter care, preparing meals, cooking, managing household daily chores, facilitating social interaction, attending medical appointments, and having knowledge and hands-on experience in caring for and treating pressure sores, palliative care turning, oral care, and End of Life care, all within their own homes. I liaise with doctors, Marie Curie Nurses, district nurses, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists, and I support residents with their physiotherapy exercise plans in their homes or at the gym. I have also worked with and supported paramedics medically whilst on duty and am currently awaiting updated catheter and stoma care certificates. I have hands-on experience of stoma care, having previously undergone an ileostomy myself, followed by major bowel surgery and a reversal. For the past ten months, I have also worked as a Self-Employed Carer within the local community and their families, providing 24-hour live-in care and hourly care to private clients in their own homes, meeting their individual care needs including personal care, catheter and stoma care, administering medication, toileting, and use of a commode. I offer meal preparation and cook freshly made meals, including Mediterranean cuisine, discussing meal plans and following specific dietary needs. I also assist with household chores, social interaction, medical appointments, and personal assistant duties. Over the years, I have cared for people who have suffered strokes, dementia, Alzheimer’s, brain injuries, limited mobility, MND, aphasia, hearing impairments, loss of sight, mental health issues, Parkinson’s disease, paralysis, OCD traits, and special educational needs, including non-verbal communication, ADHD, ASD, cerebral palsy, PANDAS, challenging behaviour, genetic disorders, and sensory impairment. I am a kind, caring, patient, good listener, empathetic, and hard-working mum. Being a Carer is such a rewarding job in many ways. I am able to support others’ independence and care for them while making a significant difference in their lives. One of my proudest moments occurred in 2016 when I was nominated for my continued care and support for children with ASD and their families at ‘The Borough's Thank You Award Ceremony’ for the Borough of North Yorkshire. I was honoured to receive an award for 'Carer/Helper - Runner Up'. I am proud of the ongoing care and support I have provided to others within the community. I have cared for, taught, and supported children overseas in Spain and have lived and worked in Italy. I speak fluent Spanish and Italian, and I know some Portuguese too. Currently, I am learning Greek. I am a very cultured person and enjoy learning about different people, cultures, and languages. I enjoy going to the theatre, live concerts, cinema, meeting friends and family, cooking Italian and Spanish Mediterranean dishes, fashion, ice skating, going to the gym, walking, and listening to music, especially from Spanish, Latin, and Italian artists including Pablo Alborán, Malú, Rosalía, Andrea Bocelli, Eros Ramazzotti, Pino Daniele, and Anna Tatangelo, to name just a few. I love the art of Flamenco and enjoy fine dining and travel. My passion is creating and planning events within the community as an Event Planner with my daughter. During COVID-19, while working as a Carer within Health and Social Care, I witnessed the impact that isolation had on people's mental health, well-being, and self-esteem. The inability to see loved ones in person or give them a hug affected many individuals deeply. I decided to bring people back together socially within the local community after the COVID-19 pandemic by creating and planning various themed and cultural entertainment events, which helped alleviate their anxiety and boosted their self-esteem while socialising and engaging with others.
