Ageing is an inevitable fact of life and as I grew up close to my grandparents, I understood the implications of getting older or having a disability. I automatically learned with an open mind that although it may be emotional and challenging, it made me reflect on how my parents approached their care needs with patience and sensitivity. I also happened to take care of my Dad who was diagnosed with dementia. Family taught me the different responsibilities and roles among family members such as communication in relation to care plans and needs. This role enabled me to care for myself in order to take care of someone else knowing that I can make a real difference. I am a Mum of three who has been working as a Carer for over 10 years with different Companies and agencies around Oxfordshire. I have worked with different vulnerable age groups of both children and adults which has helped me grow as a person as well as professionally. The relationships I have formed with the people I have worked for have made me instil a sense of personal achievement from supporting them to live life to the full. I am able to support clients with housekeeping, bathing, showering, personal care, shopping, and companionship and also be happy to transport them in their own vehicles. I will also be available for sleep-ins and live-ins at weekends. My schedule is also within school hours although some days I could be flexible. The feeling of empowering someone, and genuinely being needed is fantastic and rewarding.
