In 2016 I decided that I wanted to volunteer and give something back as I by chance met up with an old school friend who had been doing some volunteer work and spoke very highly of being a carer. I ended up working at the Championship Games in London in 2017. I also applied to Ageuk and have seen the same person, who's a stroke survivor, for nearly 5 years now. I then came across a role helping a gentleman who is quadriplegic. I enabled him to live his life as best as possible and to the fullest. All the people I've cared for have been private and I think I'm good at adapting to each individuals needs. My clients disabilities have been quadriplegia, hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy, severe fibramyalgia, polio, autism and more recently cerebral palsy. I feel that I'm a good carer because I'm caring, have the clients needs as paramount, punctual, proactive, clean, organised and sociable. I'm looking for something new to expand on the knowledge that I've gained so far by helping people with other disabilities to live their life as best as they can. Due to the vast experience I have working as a nurse I am able to give good quality care to my client's in all aspects of my work. I am a good communicator, able to implement and prioritise my work, collaborate with other multi-disciplines which enables me to achieve quality and excellent results for my client's. When on assignment I prefer to take my own food to work and I can also prepare basic meals for my client. I’m also able to engage with other multi-disciplines e.g physio, GP etc to plan/take my clients to various appointments /other leisure activities using the patient’s car as long as it’s insured for me to drive as my car’s insurance is personal and not Business or other means provided or go for walks if the client is mobile and not at risk of falling. I also prefer to have my 2 hours break every shift. Bank holiday is double time/pay.
