"I am a youthful 60+ year old. I prefer to be called Nick. My journey in Care began in November 2015 and I continue to look forward to making a positive impact on people’s quality of life. My guiding principle is respect. SNAPSHOT  Name: Nikolaos (Nick) K  Care Experience: Since Nov. 2015.  Origin: Born in Greece, raised in South Africa  Nationality: Dual - British and Greek passports  Languages: Fluent English and Greek  Driver: UK Driving License but don’t currently own a car (Driven mobility vehicles)  DBS: Enhanced, on the Update Service  Relationship: Married, English partner and two daughters  Cooking: Competent in preparing simple, tasty and nutritious meals  Smoker: No  Pets: Comfortable with all animals  References: Very good  Hobbies and Interests: The Humanities and Arts (history, archaeology, music) board and card games, documentaries and live sports on TV (football, tennis, athletics, snooker), reading, staying fit About me I began as a domiciliary carer, a great start gaining invaluable experience, skills and self-knowledge while dealing with a range of medical cases and personalities in various settings and finding that I could be discreet or hands-on according to circumstances. I found the work engaging and rewarding then, just as I do now. Eventually, I joined a PAYE live-in care company and later transitioned to self-employment. I have looked after individuals with dementia, cerebral palsy, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, frailty, limited mobility, multiple sclerosis and spinal injuries. I am confident in hoisting, catheter care and assisting with personal care needs. Mindful of my responsibility in caring for vulnerable individuals in their own home, I keep house clean and safe as if my own. I am also aware that I may be interacting with family members who have their loved one’s best interests at heart. I can say that I am laid-back and low profile but proactive with a can-do attitude. In general, I am calm, patient, conscientious, attentive, trustworthy, reliable and communicative. Background My parents were Greek. I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa where I attended the University of the Witwatersrand to study Public Administration and International Relations. I returned to Greece in my early 20s where I subsequently met my wife, who is English. We have two adult daughters who live in Sussex and we split our time between Greece and England. Before joining the UK care sector, I worked in the airline industry for 30 years, including 17 years at British Airways in mostly customer service roles. I have also worked as a literary translator and as a CELTA-qualified English language teacher. I now take pleasure in providing care. That is a brief overview. Feel free to ask any questions. I look forward to hearing from you and hope to be of help.
