I am a young-at-heart, 60+ years old, working in care since November 2015. Before that, I worked for 30 years in the travel industry, 17 of which were at British Airways. I also worked as a literary translator and an English language teacher (CELTA). I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. I attended the University of the Witwatersrand and studied International Relations and Public Administration. My parents were Greek. My wife is English and we divide our time between Greece and England for work and to see our two daughters who live in Hove. I hold a UK passport and driving license and have driven mobility vehicles and even an 18-seater school bus (with kids). However, I don't currently own a car. My enhanced DBS is on the update service. I have carer's insurance. I joined the UK social care sector at the suggestion and invitation of an English relative who owned a care company in England at that time, as an antidote to the Greek Economic Crisis. I enjoyed the work and continue to this day. I have been employed and trained by several care companies and obtained certifications which I keep up to date online since turning freelance. I provide companionship and over the years have handled complex medical cases and dementia. I am calm and patient with a commonsensical can-do attitude and reliable, acutely aware that I am entrusted with the welfare of vulnerable people. Regarding meals, I like to prepare nutritious and tasty simple good food. I don't smoke, but I don't mind those who do. I am comfortable with pets and all animals. My interests lie in the arts and humanities, especially music. I am not an avid TV viewer, though I enjoy watching the occasional sports match or documentary. I prefer working a minimum of 3 weeks but am flexible. Because every care situation is unique, please get in touch to discuss your requirements. Should we build rapport, I will happily travel nationwide to meet your expectations.
