How do I get a DBS check and how much does it cost?

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic you can apply free of charge here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-free-of-charge-dbs-applications-and-fast-track-barred-list-check-service/fast-track-service-eligible-roles

In order to help carers who do not have a DBS we are working with NACAS. Unfortunately, individuals without a DBS have to apply through a third party.

We have negotiated a discounted annual membership with our partners at NACAS (National association of carers and support workers) of £9 per annum, this allows you to apply for a DBS number through NACAS for a further cost of £4.50. It takes two to three weeks to get a DBS number. Membership of NACAS also allows you access to their free online training courses. Follow this link: https://nacas.co.uk/

There are 3 different types of DBS check:

Standard (normally £26): This reports on spent/unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings.

Enhanced (normally £44): This does the same but also includes any other relevant information that a police station might hold.

Enhanced/Barred List (normally £44): The DBS has a ‘barred’ list containing people unsuitable for work with children/vulnerable adults. This check will notify an employer if a candidate is on it.
