I have worked as a live-in carer for 2 years with clients presenting dementia, Alzheimer's , vascular, frontotemporal, Charcot Marie Tooth disease, scoliosis, assisting with personal care, medication, meal preparation, housekeeping, appointments. I also have 8 months of experience as a live-in carer for clients with complex care such as spinal cord injury. I am fully competent with bowel management - manual and Peristeen irrigation, stretches and passive exercises, medication administration, meal preparation.
Due to adverse situations in my private life, I saw my self inspired to look after others, supporting them on their daily basic needs. Knowledge of normal parameters to look after when monitoring observations or during blood sugar assessement , and how to escalate them when abnormal was of great interest to me. I also am confident performing ECG and bladder scans. I am familiar with community services available. I am used to working as a team member but I am equally confident working alone using my own initiative to carry out various tasks and achieve set objectives within a limited time frame. I also have good relationship with other team members and I am reliable, proactive and always willing to help. I am flexible and adaptable and eager to complete further training and learn new skills.I am an individual who is enthusiastic, diligent and resolved in my determination to support the service users I work with, treat them with respect and give them choice within their care. I am always patient, calm and able to build empathetic relations with service users and their carers. I have a non-judgemental attitude and a can-do approach. I have the capacity to remain focused on the task in hand and deal effectively with problems should they arise. I am able to learn new tasks and adapt as required. I listen attentively and recognise what is needed in order to respond on time and appropriately. I am aware of the continually changing environment that we work in and ensure I keep up to date with new policies. I am also aware that we are in a difficult financial situation at present and therefore work in a way that maximises the resources available. I believe that given the opportunity you are presenting, the team would benefit from the services of an effective communicator, a highly organized, experienced and self-motivated team member. I confidently believe that I would be an asset to you. For over 8 years I have worked as a healthcare assistant working in a variety of different environments ranging from a care home to where I currently work on a medical assessment unit. Working in a variety of environments and with different types of patients/clients has enabled me to build my skills in understanding what person centred care is. Person centred care is essential when providing care for patients because care is unique to each patients needs. Below I will explain what my current job description entails. I believe these qualities enable me to be an excellent carer but more than that I have the passion, compassion and the motivation to ensure that who ever I work with feels that I have enabled them to feel supported and that their needs have been met. My daily routine at work currently includes providing - [ ] Personal care - [ ] Performing ECGs - [ ] Urinalysis - [ ] Blood sugar monitoring - [ ] Blood pressure and other vital signs - [ ] Phlebotomy - [ ] Cannulation Currently when at work I’m required to provide care for a number of patients per day. As we are all aware the nhs is currently overwhelmed and my current workload means that I don’t have the opportunity to focus on client, hence why applying for a one to one care for one client is ideal because I will be able to provide high standard care for one client. The skills I have stated above also make me a great cater because not only will I be helping with personal care, meals, I will also be able to look after clients with complex care needs for example diabetes, observation of vital signs. I get satisfaction from being able to be a part of enabling someone to live their life to the fullest and in the best of quality.
I genuinely believe that care support work is one of the most amazing things I can provide for another person. Care support work is making sure the client’s needs are met precisely as required. To do this requires taking the time to sit and listen and making the effort to go the extra mile. Care support work is providing people with peace, comfort and happiness in their own home. The clients I work with every day have a diverse range of care needs, personalities and lifestyles. I believe in providing care support with satisfaction, helping clients to maintain their independence and enriching their lives with high quality care. I have provided care support to a range of clients who have sustained neurological injury or illness, in their own homes, hospital or residential setting with great pride and satisfaction.
My name is Dorcas, I’m an experienced carer, I will support any client with personal care, emptying the commode and catheter bag, changing of incontinence pad, preparation of meals, prompting or administering medication, transfer from one place to another. Furthermore, I can communicate effectively, able to maintain confidentiality, respect the choice of service users and report and record any changes about service users activities.
