Hello, My name is Debbie, and I have been working in the care industry for just over seven years. I began my career in community care, then transitioned into residential care, and finally into live-in care. Confidentiality is extremely important to me, and I always give 100% of myself to those I care for. I enjoy meeting new people and helping them live independently or assisting them being able to get out of the house for shopping and appointments I think an important role for being a carer is the client knowing they have some companionship and are able to get help with what they need. Understanding the care and support each and every client needs and how they differ, but being able to adapt to their care needs and also understand the person be confidential and respect each clients dignity and privacy. To be respectful is a clients house and space let them know you are there for them if they need assistance but encourage independence as and when possible. A day with me as a carer might start out with helping them out of bed and assisting them in the shower, then preparing the breakfast and meds that need to be taken. Then it could be that the client has a hospital appointment or needs to collect shopping they may just want to go for a drive in the car or a walk to somewhere. Being a carer is being able to cater to someone’s personal needs and things that they would like to do.
I am a carer that works within Scotland although happy to travel within means, I have been in the care sector for around 5 years and many years of personal experience. I have mostly worked as a live in carer, I also do hourly and overnight. I have always enjoyed working and being around the elderly, it’s rewarding and certainly makes it worthwhile knowing Iv made someone else’s days better. I am an understanding person with good communication skills, I have respect and dignity for my clients and I treat all my clients like I would if they were my own family members. I’m happy to work towards what suits the family’s and clients needs best in all aspects when assigned to a placement.
