My name is Oluwakemi. I like to be known as Kemie. I am an African from Nigeria, but I understand and speak English language very well. I am patient, a good listener, and enjoy working closely with others - especially older people. I have about 4 years experience as a carer but it seems to me like I've been a carer for a lifetime because I'm so passionate about caring for the elderly. I enjoy listening to older people, I am a very patient person and am always happy to work at my clients' pace, following their lead. I have worked in end of life care, people living with dementia, stroke, etc. Helping to make clients comfortable at home as a live-in carer. I work well with other palliative care team members, such as doctors, and also with supporting family members with respite care. I love looking after other people, so when my children left home, I decided to become a carer and continue what I’m really good at. I love reading, watching movies, especially family and true life ones. I am a good cook! It’s a big part of my life, and I love trying out new recipes. I can bake well and cook any kind of dishes provided. I'm well guided. I can work on an hourly basis, daytime and overnight shift, and even live in. Contact me, and I’ll reply as soon as I can. Thank you.
My journey into healthcare is deeply personal. When my first child was diagnosed with delayed speech back home where there were no local services ,I refused to give up. Each time I travelled to the U.S. to seek therapy for him, I studied and practised speech therapy techniques myself. Back home, I became his therapist, advocate, and full-time carer. Through love, faith, and determination, my once non-verbal son is now 17, in college, full time education ,verbal, independent, and thriving. That experience opened my heart to care and I have carried that same passion into my professional life. This experience motivated me to work for Kennyskids and Services Limited. This is a Center that focused on kids with special needs. I was opportune to focus on sourcing for therapy materials, coordinating speech assessment for the kids as well as counselling families. The above experience taught me good communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills, flexibility and being responsible, positivity, enthusiasm, professionalism , IT competency as well as team work. Today, I bring both lived and professional experience into every healthcare role I take. I currently work as a Complex Care Healthcare Assistant, and have also served as a Support Worker, Mental Health Support Worker, and SEN Teaching Assistant. I’ve supported people with a wide range of complex needs learning disabilities, autism, mental health challenges, and physical impairments with patience, empathy, and professionalism. I have supported the elderly, youth and Children. My hands-on skills include: Hoisting and safe manual handling PEG feeding and medication administration Tracheostomy stoma care Personal care with dignity Seizure monitoring and mental health support Accurate record-keeping and safeguarding I am CPI-trained, have my Care Certificate and completed my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, and have extensive experience following care plans and working in multi-disciplinary teams. My academic background in Business Management (MBA) and Marketing (2:1) strengthens my organisation, communication, and teamwork. As a mother, I understand the emotional weight families carry. As a carer, I strive to be the person I once needed compassionate, reliable, and calm under pressure. These make me stand out amongst my peers. I take great pride in making people feel safe, valued, and understood. To me, care is not just a job , it is a calling.
I am a highly competent, enthusiastic carer with a personality to match. Good level of communication skills that match with a great passion caring for people with a multitude of health issues. I have thirteen years of extensive experience working in different and various settings within health and social care. I have worked within residential homes on a variety of placements. Recently, as a live in carer for adults and the elderly within their homes, providing specialist care in areas such as dementia care palliative care, cancer care and disabled care. I have a vast experience and extensive knowledge that I have acquired through this caring profession. I have in-depth of understanding, for looking after individuals by supporting them emotionally, physically and spiritually, I believe this helps them with their personal centred development and encouraging independence. Through my journey as a carer, I have shown passion, professionalism and a caring attitude to help others to integrate and be accepted into the community
I have been a carer from 2015 till now. I also worked as a volunteer with an orphanage charity in Africa when I was younger. Looking after people has always been a pleasure for me, there is no such a good thing than seeing that you are impacted positively people life. I used to look after a young adult for 6 years, he had cerebral palsy and my duties and responsibilities involved medical administration, personal care, cleaning his mickey button, set up his peg, outdoor activities( shopping, pottery class, cookery class, travel by car to see extended family etc). In addition I worked with brain injury people where my duties involved bowel managment, Tracheostomy care, physiotherapy and many more. My motto is always to try to put smile on people face it's not always easy but it's possible.
