Before working in care and while raising a family, I worked mainly in office based jobs. In my own time I supported an elderly neighbour with light housework, gardening, walking her little companion dog, accessing the community, or just called in for a cup of tea and a chat. I also supported a friend who was a wheelchair user and accompanied him to fundraising and social events. Since my children have now all flown the nest, I have pursued my passion to work in care. I have worked previously as a rehabilitation support worker for people who have ABI (acquired brain injury}, and was working on an employed basis for the elderly in a care home setting for over two and a half years before going back to one-to-one support for individuals with ABI. I love to get to know the individuals I support and care for as this allows me to provide 'person centered' care in the true sense, and gain a deeper understanding of an individuals care needs. When I hear from residents or clients that I care for that "It is nice to receive care from someone who really cares', it just melts my heart and fills me with pride and fulfillment in what I do. I love animals and understand and appreciate how important companion animals can be, I know how important my dog is to my own happiness and wellbeing. I have a genuine interest in people, their welfare and dignity, and with a wide variety of interests I am usually able to find something to connect on some level with people from all walks of life. If you are looking for some support for yourself or a loved one, please get in touch, I would love to hear from you.
