I am a compassionate, dedicated, attentive, and friendly person. I put the comfort of my clients as priority. I am empathetic in my dealings with my clients, I have a good sense of humour, I engage my clients with good communication skills with open mind to make them comfortable at all times. I always go an extra mile to gain the trust of my clients. I have a degree in psychosocial studies combined honours in - (PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY). I also have a masters in same. With my background in psychology, I have what it takes to meet the needs of service users. Also, I have HND in secretarial and administrative studies. I worked as an office manager for years before I decided to work as a carer. I am a qualified secretary apart from being a psychosociologist. I started level 5 counselling in 2024. I also have level 2 certificate in counselling. As a mother and a married woman for over 2 decades, I put care as my number one priority as it has become part of my life. My experience in care sector dates back to almost 2 decades. I worked with the family of a well known footballer for many years. I am a good listener, I took a year out to study counselling. I love dancing and walking. I have just added daily exercise to my routine by investing in an exercise bike and treadmill in my home gym. A day with me as a professional carer will start with settling the service users after a night sleep break. I'll sit and chat briefly for a few minutes to check in on how the night went. (If client is not mobile, I will support staff with either a walker or hoist transfer). Then, offer client personal hygiene assistance - bath, wash, brushing of teeth, hair combing, application of body cream/ body lotion and dressing up. Then afterwards, I'll support client to the living room depending on routine of service users, (medication can be given) if this is the routine. If not, I'll offer breakfast then medication according to requirements and I'll log the medication use in the log for medication. After completing morning routine, I will engage the service user with conversation or what interests them, like story telling or current affairs then, I'll check in on service user to see if he/she is ready for the day. If service user is an elderly citizen, I may ask if they are comfortable to take less strenuous exercise to help improve mobility and flexibility. (If client is mobile) I may ask if they are comfortable to go out for a walk. Before lunch, when service user is resting, l'll do the house chores- bed making, general tidying , laundry and bins. While moving around, I'll keep an eye on clients condition and monitor how they are. At lunch time, depending on routine I may involve client in preparation if they are interested. If not, I will make them what they prefer after asking them. (Meal that is line with their diet). After lunch, I always try to engage clients with activities like playing games, puzzles, reading or gardening. For clients with dementia, I always go with family instructions if they like music, I sit with them and we listen together but with others I engage them with memory games. If there are any appointments, I drive them there in my car or theirs depending on prior arrangements. In the evening, before I prepare dinner, we watch tv together then I make dinner as per dietary standard and requirements. Sometimes, I assist service users by feeding them. This depends on the condition of the client. After dinner, I sit with client to relax, then after a while, I assist clients, as we progress to the evening routine of either bathing or washing, change into pj's, brushing of teeth, evening medication. Then, I support client to bed. I always make sure clients are comfortable in their bed/ bedroom. I check on temperature of room, draw curtains, put a bottle of water by bed, put phone on bedside table, make sure room is well lighted for client. Before I end my shift, I always record my observations, fill out and update all necessary forms, inform a responsible person involved in package or person taking over from me of clients condition and conduct throughout the day.
