Frequently asked questions for managed care

Curam have provided 6.5 million hours of care support to clients with a wide range of needs and conditions. Some clients require a 'managed care' solution in which the Curam Managed Care Services team works with the service user to define the requirements so that a clear care plan can be agreed and shared with carers.

Managed care on Curam is a fully supported, CQC‑regulated care service. Curam's Managed Care team helps organise and co-ordinate tailored care plans as well as overseeing your care from start to finish. It’s ideal if you need extra support, have complex needs, or don’t have a family member/advocate to manage care on your behalf.

Curam’s Managed Care service is available for adults aged 18 and over who need support at home, offering personalised help such as personal care, companionship, domestic tasks, and medication prompting to promote independence and wellbeing.

A Care Support Plan sets out the type and level of care you or your loved one will receive. It’s created using a person‑centred approach and overseen by Curam’s Registered Care Manager.

The plan includes your needs, preferences, routines, and wellbeing goals to help match you with a suitable carer. Carers use the plan to record care notes, which may be shared with agreed professionals and, where care is regulated, accessed by the CQC. Privacy and confidentiality are always maintained.

A home assessment is an assessment carried out by the Curam Manged Care Team at the start of your care package to ensure your home is safe and suitable for care. It usually begins with a short telephone call or visit with a member of our team to understand your needs, goals, and how we can best support you.

The assessment may be completed remotely at first and then confirmed during an in‑person visit if needed. A carer, friend, or relative can join you if you wish. Any risks or adjustments identified are discussed with Curam’s Registered Care Manager to ensure care is delivered safely and in line with CQC requirements.

A risk assessment is carried out by the Managed Care team at the start of your care package to identify any risks linked to your care needs, health, mobility, or home environment. It helps ensure care is delivered safely for both you and the carer.

The assessment considers areas such as moving and handling, medication support, mobility, and environmental risks. Any risks identified are discussed with you and overseen by Curam’s Registered Care Manager, with appropriate actions put in place in line with CQC requirements.

Care scheduling is managed by Curam’s Managed Care team, who coordinate and oversee care visits to ensure they are reliable, consistent, and matched to your needs.

The team creates and manages your care rota based on your Care Support Plan, preferred times, and agreed level of support. They liaise with carers, manage any changes or cover, and keep you informed, helping ensure care is delivered smoothly and safely in line with CQC requirements.

All Managed Care approved carers are required to hold an Enhanced DBS and be registered on the DBS Update Service. This allows checks to be kept up to date and ongoing suitability to be monitored, helping ensure care is delivered safely and in line with safeguarding and CQC requirements.

Curam Managed Care Services has a thorough recruitment and vetting process to ensure carers are safe, skilled, and suitable to deliver high quality care. All carers attend an interview with the Registered Manager and the Human Resources Manager, provide two professional work references, full work history, hold an Enhanced DBS on the DBS Update Service, and complete mandatory training, including Care Certificate, Moving and Handling, Basic Life Support, Medication Administration, Safeguarding Adults, and Health and Safety, in line with CQC requirements.
