I am applying for this role as a Health Care Assistant; however, I bring with me the added benefit of being a qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse. While this is not a nursing position, I am happy to apply my mental health knowledge and skills when needed or requested, to ensure the highest standard of holistic care.
Before training as a Mental Health Nurse, I worked for more than 10 years as a Health Care Assistant, Support Worker, and Live-In Carer. I supported individuals with a wide range of needs, including learning disabilities, deafness, blindness, and behaviours that challenge, across both supported living and home-based settings. I’ve worked with both male and female clients, always delivering care with empathy, dignity, and respect.
Over the years, I have provided care to individuals living with conditions such as dementia, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. I am trained in safeguarding, dementia care, and the Mental Capacity Act, and I am confident working both independently and as part of a wider care team to ensure safe, person-centred support.
My practical skills include:
Personal care (washing, dressing, toileting)
Catheter care and oral hygiene
Medication administration
Cooking well-balanced meals that promote healing, while giving clients control and choice in meal planning
Housekeeping, ironing, and general home organisation
Gardening and light outdoor tasks
Supporting and planning engaging activities tailored to clients' interests
I particularly enjoy preparing nutritious meals and involving clients in the process to encourage routine, stimulation, and independence. I also take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming home environment that supports overall wellbeing.
I am always eager to grow and learn, and I regularly update my knowledge through training and experience. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, swimming, shopping, cleaning, gardening, and travelling—hobbies that often help me connect meaningfully with clients and enhance the care experience.
I take pride in making a positive difference in people’s lives and would be honoured to bring my compassion, experience, and dedication to the team at Curam Care.
