With over two decades of dedicated experience in health and social care, and a robust academic background, I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Positive Behaviour Support to further my commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My journey has been driven by a deep-seated passion for creating supportive environments that foster positive behaviours and personal growth.
Professional Journey and Experience
Over the past 22 years, I have worked across various roles in health and social care, where I have honed my skills in supporting individuals with diverse needs. My career began as a care assistant, where I obtained an NVQ Level 2 in Care, which laid the foundation for my understanding of the principles of compassionate and person-centred care. This early experience ignited my passion for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and it set the stage for my subsequent professional and academic pursuits.
Throughout my career, I have held various positions, each adding to my expertise in the field. From working in direct care roles to taking on supervisory and leadership responsibilities, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with behavioural needs and the strategies required to support them effectively. My experience spans residential care, community support, and educational settings, providing me with a diverse perspective on the implementation of positive behaviour strategies.
Academic Background and Professional Development
I hold a degree in Intellectual and Developmental Studies, which provided me with a solid academic foundation in understanding the complexities of intellectual disabilities and developmental disorders. My studies have equipped me with a thorough understanding of the theoretical frameworks and evidence-based practices that underpin effective support strategies. Complementing this, I earned a Diploma in Health Studies, further deepening my knowledge of health and social care principles.
As I progressed in my career, I recognized the need for continuous professional development to stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field. I have participated in numerous training programs and workshops, including specialized courses in positive behaviour support and behaviour analysis. These opportunities have allowed me to expand my skill set and apply cutting-edge techniques to my practice.
