I began my work in social care supporting individuals with severe autism, epilepsy and learning difficulties during my second year of university. After my study exchange in Australia and my return to Manchester to finish my degree, I began working at a brain injury rehabilitation unit, supporting the individual's there with a range of complex needs, as well as promoting their independence to try and give them the fullest life as possible. Most recently back home in Brighton I have been working with children supporting them with various mental health needs, delivering specialist care. People often describe me as a very calm and relaxed person. This helps me to be patient and sensible in difficult and challenging situations, without getting too caught up in it. I am friendly, warm and caring. I love hiking, reading, surfing, gardening and listening to music. I have had to de-escalate with many of the individual's I have worked with in the past, when they have been in heightened, emotional and sometimes aggressive states. De-escalation techniques such as redirection can be useful in these situations, however I think it is very important to work using a positive and proactive behavioural approach. This means attempting to keep the individual at baseline by supporting all of their needs and not triggering them in any way. I have lots of experience using daily records and making any necessary reports. I also have had plenty of medication administration experience.
