I aim to act with professionalism and diplomacy in all situations whilst remaining approachable throughout, my most recent role has required me to adapt my communication skills to support those with challenging behaviours, who are non verbal and to ensure that they have healthy boundaries whilst interacting with domestic care staff. I have a passion for supporting others and an ability to adapt to situations as they arise; my approach is largely proactive and preventative rather than reactive. I believe this should be the centre of all of my work and interactions, for instance highlighting to a new starter in a recent role that her position and proximity towards a service user (SU) would encourage the SU to likely pull on her hair - through explaining the situation and being aware of the new staff, I was able to proactively ensure that all remained well and no harm was caused. My experience within the healthcare sector spans over 18 years, within a variety of teams; for instance; within care-home staffing; within domiciliary 1:1 care; acting as a PA for those with extra support needs; and, within supported living environments. My most recent work has been with those with complex support and educational needs. The client groups that I have worked with previously include musculoskeletal conditions such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, those with spinal injuries and respiratory complaints, those with communication, memory and behavioural needs. When I am not working, I enjoy spending my time walking and cycling with family, listening to music and travelling. I am always willing to try new things and get stuck in.
