I have been a caregiver all my life, looking after family, friends and loved ones that fell ill. Current responsibilities in my role as caregiver is to provide full care to my clients in the comfort of their own home. Throughout my experience as a Registered Nurse/Midwife in South Africa, I always took great pride in providing the best evidenced-based care to my customers, clients and patients. I specialized in Neonatal Intensive Care for many years and although I am devoted to the new-borns, my other love is of the elderly. In my new role as carer, I find great joy in connecting with my client in a purposeful and meaningful way that brings about a great sense of fun and laughter, whether through creative outlets, or reading a war novel that is gripping and heart-wrenching page-turner, or an autobiography of David Attenborough (whom I love) and Janet Gooddall (‘My Life with the Chimpanzees’). I am currently reading a novel on true events by Kate Thompson ‘The Little Wartime Library’ to clients, and this has provided hours of entertainment, discussions and lots of memories shared. Cooking and baking is a favourite pastime, and together with my nursing skills, I am a valuable team member in any household. My personality traits would be considered confident, thoughtful, trustworthy, friendly, modest, humble, patient, empathetic, respectful, reliable and sensitive to the needs of others. My client’s daughter recently wrote this to me - ‘You were so important to my mum and I will always be grateful for the major role you had in keeping her safe and happy in the last months of her life’.
