During my gap year (2020), I spent a year and a half working where I was given training and was then able to help in care homes across the North West. Here, I helped the healthcare team both independently and as part of the team, with bathroom assistance, morning/night care, personal care, eating and drinking, moving and handling and medication prompting. I worked with a range of residents, including patients with dementia, end-of-life care, and post-stroke care. Additionally, I have volunteered at a Hospice for a year fortnightly where I went to each ward chatting with patients and helping with refreshments.
In 2019 I became a 'Dementia Friend' where I spent 3 days learning about dementia and volunteering at a Dementia Cafe. Here, I was able to learn about the disease and was also able to talk to the patient's careers and families. This enabled me to understand the impact of dementia and helped me when I became a carer myself.
I have also worked part-time in a pharmacy for 4 years, dispensing prescriptions as well as working the till and helping in the front of the shop. This allowed me to develop my communication and interpersonal skills as well as expand my knowledge of medication.
In December 2020 I completed training on immunisations and was able to help with the Covid-19 vaccinations from December 2020 to January 2021. This training enabled me to vaccinate people of all ages safely and also covered basic training on anaphylaxis.
I am friendly, organised, caring and patient. I love chatting, watching TV, reading and cooking/baking and enjoy walking and learning new things. I am looking for work to do alongside my studies. I am happy to do temporary live-in positions during my holidays and permanent positions during term time dependent on hours.
