Hello, My name is Johanna and I have worked as a personal assistant and companion/carer for the last nine years (6 years in the UK, 3 in Sweden). Working as a personal assistant in Sweden I assisted disabled individuals (wheelchair bound) to do various practical everyday things that they were unable to do themselves or needed some help doing, like shopping, cooking, general house work, going to the doctor or dentist, the hairdresser, garden centre, theatre, cinema or a concert, going to work or a meeting, a social gathering, a day out, or we might just go for a walk or watch telly together. I also assisted with transfers from and into bed using a hoist, dressing and undressing, going to the toilet, taking a shower, eating/feeding etc. My companion roles have included most of the above but much less personal care. I lived in London for 15 years between 2001-2016, then in Sweden for a few years, and came back to London in 2020 for a companion role and have stayed here since. I’m interested in arts and culture, current affairs, the environment, good food (preferably with dessert!), tv documentaries, dramas and films. I’m practical, honest, a solution finder, have a sense of humour and common sense. I’m looking for part-time work on an hourly basis and I’m generally available from 11am - 8pm. I’m not available for mornings but could do some evenings if required. I’m currently based in Earlsfield, London SW18 where I have been a live-in companion to an elderly lady who passed away in late 2024. I would like to work locally, preferably a bicycle ride or short train/tube or bus ride away. I have a valid Swedish driver’s licence but no car and have never driven in London. I’m fluent in spoken and written English and Swedish. I speak a little French. If you think I might be a good fit for you, please get in touch and we can have a chat. I look forward to hearing from you!
Becoming a carer was a surprising shift for me. It was not something I'd imagined while studying computer science at Cambridge. Many years were spent in the tech industry, but that career did not give me any personal satisfaction. While living abroad 20 years ago, I was struck by a car whilst walking on the pavement. As a result, I spent months in hospital and in recovery for the better part of a year. I became a carer two years ago, and I draw upon this experience and channel my empathy to all the men I look after. In the years I've been a carer, my personal approach to care-giving has yielded significant results. To give one example: the connection and trust I built with one 93-year old gentleman led him to stop sleeping on the living room sofa and start sleeping in his hospital bed in his bedroom for the first time in years. He'd been very resistant, but now sees the benefits: he cited having a good night's sleep and less back pain. Preparing fresh food for him also made a big difference, and he is now eating at least one full meal a day. In so many small ways, I know I am making a difference - from ensuring their hearing aids or internet connection are working to connecting with their friends or medical assistants, my approach can best be summed up as personal, tailored, and empathetic. I principally serve SW15, but please call me if you are slightly outside that area and I believe that I can help you.
I am a very passionate individual based on my background and the people I have looked after back home in my family. I take this not only as a job, but as something at heart and I dearly care about it. I love to see people get better under my care and be happy and comfortable around me.
I am a very hard working support worker. Always interested in working with people. Help with personal care, cooking, taking them shopping and getting in what they want to do daily like exercising & going cinema. Also learning more a bout my clients needs & meeting them. Always listening to the client’s needs and requirements at the start of the day and work with the clients accordingly to his or her needs.
