I have worked as a Care Assistant for 8 and a half years. During this time I have worked with dementia patients where I have lived in their homes. I assisted with bathing, dressing, moving and handling, hoisting, preparing and cooking meals. I ensure daily exercise were achieved in several ways such as walking, cycling etc. I also work with people who are mentally challenged supporting them in all areas of their lives such as shopping, assist with bathing and dressing. Cooking, personal grooming and much more. I have learnt how to gain trust with patients by listening to them actively and acting on information given. Attending to their needs following their agenda and not my own. I trained as a counsellor so was able to apply this skill effectively by being empathetic and caring, non judgemental and helpful. .
