I am currently a self-employed live-in carer in Scotland. I am flexible and travel anywhere in Scotland. I do 3 weeks on and 1 week off but I am flexible to do less or more than that depending on my availability. I was previously employed as a personal Assistant. I am a very responsible, reliable, physically & mentally fit, kind, caring a great communicator and very passionate about caring for others. I have worked with vulnerable adults with dementia, chronic conditions, down syndrome, stroke, physical disabilities just to mention a few and I have provided end of life care as well. I have worked in a care home and a nursing home as well as a live-in carer, providing end of life care. I bring forth my extensive experience as a team player as well as working well unsupervised. I also have experience of anxiety and depression care gained over the years I worked as a health care assistant in the care and nursing homes. I have more than 4 years care experience altogether in the UK however, I also looked after my grandmother and paternal aunt who both required special care due to their health conditions for more than 10 years until my Nan sadly passed. Through this, I gained extensive care experience and it became a daily routine for me that I love to do effortlessly. I always had a passion for putting other people's needs first and I am big on promoting independence and making the next person feel included in everything in a conducive environment. I absolutely love pets. I had two dogs, a poodle and a jack Russell myself. My paternal aunt owned 2 dogs as well as 1 cat and they were part of the Family and still are. I do not have a car currently but, as I said at the beginning of my bio, I am very flexible for any distance across Scotland. I am fluent in both spoken and written English because it is our official (first language) in the country where I originally come from. I also speak Afrikaans and 2 other native languages from my country of origin Namibia. I love to make sure that my service users look and feel their best thus, I have experience in personal grooming, nail polishing, hair styling etc Most importantly, I like to ensure that service users feel included thus I love to come up with different initiatives for any kind of activities service users love to do and I ensure that they are hands on whenever possible. I am also someone that loves to be up to date with current affairs and therefore I love to initiate conversations and I have an amazing general knowledge. Besides having worked as a carer, I also worked in 2 of the biggest banks in my country Namibia (First National Bank Namibia and Standard Bank Namibia). I have an advanced Diploma (Equivalent to a a degree) in Banking, Finance and Credit. I started my career in the bank as a Financial Data Entry Clerk and worked my way up to Area Portfolio Manager which was my last posion in the banking industry before I came to the UK. I worked as a live-in carer in England providing end of life care until the service user sadly passed. Thank you so much for taking time to read my bio and please do not hesitate to contact me if you loved what you read and is in need of my services. Thank you once again Ms Cynthia
I am patient, caring and generous of spirit. I love a good laugh and like to make a difference. I helped nurse my father through a long and painful six-year journey with Alzheimers to keep healthy and comfortable. I learned a lot about death, grief and how to support those close through that process. During Covid lockdown in South Africa 2020, I took up a six month companion contract with a 93 year old lady, suffering with depression after the death of her husband. I integrated well with her family and eased their concern with regular communication. This experience progressed to my relocating to the UK in March 2021. Since then, I have been a live-in Carer with a diverse and interesting mix of clients and their families across Scotland and England and embrace the unique backgrounds and upbringing of each family. I have worked with people with dementia, diabetes, depression, aphasia, palliative care, permanent oxygen with various levels of mobility requiring moving and handling experience. Personal care and grooming with songs sung together brings on a smile or shared dance. Caring is an extremely fulfilling vocation for me after 30 years in a professional and corporate environment. Hearing wonderful stories from my father of his bush experiences in central Africa and growing up in a humble, healthy, and positive environment, I too enjoy the outdoors and most sports. My Scottish mother shared her refinement, poise, desire to travel, importance of education and financial independence and with 2 sisters I wasn’t going to get away with not learning the feminine roles played in a home. My parents also encouraged their daughters to be independent, strong, observant women and we were taught to mix easily with people from all cultures and walks of life. One of the simple succinct mantras in our household was that “to have class is to have the ability to engage at any level and move in any circle”. I thoroughly enjoy listening to clients’ stories and experiences. I enjoy time in the kitchen preparing visually interesting, healthy and tasty meals and try living in a neat and clean home. I can confidently assist with all aspects of running of a household- from driving a client to appointments or social occasions, food shopping, assisting in the garden, sorting out cupboards, basic administration if required- to being competent on the computer. Coming from a talented sporting family, I’ve always been involved in team and individual sports, run an ultra marathon twice, played provincial and Masters field hockey and completed the biggest open water swim in the World four times. I work at maintaining my fitness levels and work hard at finding balance in my life. Endurance sport has taught me to dig deep when in pain – another lesson which has served me during the tough times. A bonus for me would be to take a client outdoors regularly to get in some form of exercise, fresh air and a bit of sunlight which is a sure way to lift one’s spirits. I enjoy some down time in Glasgow with my 2 sons who are in their mid-twenties. I keep in regular contact with my 85-year-old Mum who is still feisty and believes she can still socialize and keep up with her grandchildren’s antics. I enjoy hiking and exploring the hidden gems around Glasgow and always take my binoculars with me to try and squeeze in some bird spotting. I have had very positive feedback from all my clients with supporting references that “boost “my ego - so please get in touch if you think I‘d be a suitable fit for you or your family member that I can help live independently and happily in their homes.
I possess vast experience working as a caring person as I have been working in the Care sector as a support worker in community living homes since 2008. I am a friendly, hard working, enthusiastic, responsible and adaptable worker and in 2016 I also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Alcohol and Drug Studies from the University of West of Scotland. I am presently seeking a role within the Care sector that will allow me to make full use of my existing skills as well as provide me with the opportunity for further development.
I am determined and also relate well with all kinds of people. I am hardworking and unperturbed with hard work. I am well organised. I am always willing to learn. I can work on my own and also in a team. I have realistic expectations and goals. I am punctual. I enjoy cooking, music, reading books, and visiting new places in my spare time.
