After caring for my own parents for 4 years, I realised that this is what I wanted to do. For the past 16 years, I have worked as a live-in carer, so my clients can continue living independently in their own homes. I support and care for their needs, wants, and interests. My approach is person-centered, which means I provide care and support in a way that the client desires. I am caring, adaptable, reliable, enthusiastic, hardworking, and self-motivated, I also have a warm, kind, and friendly approach as a carer (not forgetting my funny side). I have worked with clients with dementia, mobility issues, and diabetes. I have experience with clients who require hoists, chairlifts, monitoring blood glucose levels, stoma, and catheters (male and female), I do not have certificates for these, but I am happy to have the district nurses sign off on my level of training, I am always willing to learn new skills to care for a client. Caring for a client at home has proven to be beneficial to their health and wellbeing. As part of my daily routine, I help my clients with activities of daily living, cook meals, and ensure that prescribed medications and exercises are followed. I am especially vigilant for signs that my client is feeling unwell, and I do not hesitate to schedule an appointment with the doctor. This is especially true for UTIs. Over the years, I have become adept at recognising the first signs of a UTI. Symptoms aren't always obvious, but they can be painful, and so early diagnosis and treatment are critical. Medication compliance is also important, so I ensure that prescriptions are filed quickly A balanced diet is important, and I enjoy cooking traditional homemade meals, such as roast dinners, casseroles, cottage/shepherd pies, macaroni and cheese, light meals, and salads. To ensure social engagement, I enjoy chatting with my clients and going on outings to garden centres, the National Trust, shopping, and church. I believe that the quality of care I provide, and warm, kind and friendly manner as a carer is why I have had several long-term clients (6½ years, 3¾ years, and 2 years). For new clients, I suggest a two-week settling-in period and then happy to extend to 6 weeks on and 2 weeks off. Public holidays are charged at double the daily rate. I own my own car, and I am fully covered for business car insurance, there is a charge of £0.45/mile when driving clients around. I am available to work anywhere in the UK. On my time off, I am looking for regular clients I can cover a few nights a week, ideally fitting into an existing Curam micro team.
