I am a member of NACAS (National Association of Care Professionals) and I hold an online DBS clearance for the UK, covering Scotland and Northern Ireland. For several years, I worked for a care company in the Hospital to Home Care team, where I gained extensive experience with a wide range of disabilities, stages of illness, and demanding care needs. I have looked after clients with brain injuries, dementia, after hospital treatments, and in palliative care—both bed-bound and in wheelchairs. I have experience operating all types of hoists and dealing with catheter care and stoma bags.
I am patient, friendly, well-organised, and I like to keep the house tidy. I ensure that clients are not merely watching TV all day but are engaged in activities such as memory-supporting games, word searches, and puzzles that we can do together. I also provide personal care and assist with meals and medications. I am happy to cook light and healthy meals, as well as bake bread or sweet options. I always discuss the menu with the person I care for, respecting their meal preferences for the day. I enjoy staying with clients for longer; for one of my clients, I provided care for five and a half years until the very end.
I have a car and a full, clean driving licence. My clients appreciate being taken out to see their relatives and friends, go for walks in green spaces, or go shopping. I have noticed that even a short walk in a park revives them and compensates for a lack of social life and human contact.
I am willing to learn new skills and adapt easily to new environments and clients. I prefer to meet a client beforehand to discuss any potential cooperation in person. Like most carers, I charge extra on Bank Holidays.
I always try to put myself in the shoes of my lovely clients to understand their perspective and to make every effort to enhance their quality of life.
