I started as a carer providing domiciliary care for over a year, which has allowed me to gain experience with a variety of individuals and conditions. I laid a strong and broad foundation during my first year as a carer. Despite having worked with patients with stroke, dementia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cardiac arrest, spinal injury, cerebral palsy, anxiety, visual and hearing impairment, PEG feeding, and physical disabilities, I have gained significant experience with spinal injury, dementia, and brain injury patients. What makes me stand out as a carer is my ability to empathise with my patients and deliver personalised service according to their circumstances and needs. For instance, spinal injury patients are complex cases and they ought to receive support tailored to their unique needs; this principle applies to every condition. Therefore, despite my experience with a particular condition, I always maintain a learning posture when dealing with a new patient. I am patient, friendly, well-organised, and I keep everything tidy around me. I am happy to provide personal care, companionship, and assist with meals or medications. I can prepare light and healthy meals, as well as bake bread, cakes, or desserts. I always discuss the menu with the individual or their family, respecting their meal preferences. I am happy to accompany the patient to watch television and enjoy playing games, solving puzzles, listening to music, or engaging in intellectual and/or philosophical conversations. I have a full clean driving licence, and my clients enjoy being taken out for meals, walks, and events. I am willing to learn new skills, and I believe I adapt well to new environments and different personalities. I understand that anyone with a health condition often has their mental health affected as well. My various training combined with my gentle and genuine personality allows me to uphold my patients’ dignity and freedom of choice and expression. No one knows the patient better than their family, so I am very keen on working alongside my patient’s family and I like to adopt a teamwork approach. My goal is to enhance the quality of life for those who have been limited by physical or mental setbacks. While it’s not always possible, that is my personal aim. Please get in touch if you feel that I would be a good addition to your loved one’s life. Feel free to reach out.
