Family circumstances had temporarily put fostering on hold as we cared for my mother in law in our home through cancer treatment. Sadly, she passed away last May. We have also cared for my father in law short term before he needed specialist 24 hour dementia care. During my time as a childminder I gained a qualification as an early years SENCo which gave me a much broader knowledge of people's individual needs. I recently followed my passion to support children with SEN and have been working as a part time TA in a special school since last April. I have completed Makaton level 1 training and 2 Safeguarding courses since my start. I understand the different needs of each child in the class including visual aids, makaton, sensory need, sensory overload. Our most recent foster child was age 5 and non-verbal with ASD. I have loved getting to know him and understanding his needs. I have looked after children and adults with different dietary requirements including the GAPS diet, egg allergy, dairy intolerance to name a few. As my mother in law was relying less on her feeding tube I introduced her to organic bone broth to help heal and strengthen her immune system. I encourage my family to make healthy choices around food too. In my spare time I like to garden, play piano and go for walks with friends. I have also begun visiting the theatre a little more with my family.
