I enjoy caring for people. It makes me happy when I see smiles on their faces, and I do it with empathy. With the skills I have and experience I know that I have what it takes to work towards their needs and recovery. EXPERIENCE I have been working in the Health Care sector for more than 2 years as a Domiciliary Health care assistant and support worker where I had an opportunity to take care of palliative patients. Since I started working in a care sector, I now have a basic understanding of care environment. During my shift, we sometimes have other professionals comes to visit our clients in their home e.g. Doctors, Social workers, Nurses etc. they all work together to make sure that service users receive the best care. As a health care assistant in care home, I have to assist the nurses in giving care to the services users in their own home including assisting to suctioning , setting up peg feed administering medication and if I notice any changes in their health, as a health care assistant caring for someone I see every day, I have to let the nurses know or the family members also I have to report to the manager in the office. Every care I give must be recorded in the service user’s note. SKILLS/ABILITIES I have a good communication skill which has helped me relate with clients effectively and their family’s members and other agencies that relate to their care. as a carer your body language and eye contact are very important, and listening is another important factor in a care sector. I always listen and give them opportunity to express their needs and views. I am able to listen and identify through observation and with my assessment skills and through client’s history and care plan for clients. My communication skills will enable me to provide good interaction conversational support for patients. I am always able to maintain confidentiality and able to keep record, to make sure the reports are legibly written accordingly. Any information about a patient should not be release to a third party without their consent except professional bodies like Doctors. I like working in a team, my interpersonal skills help me to contribute positively in teams and work together in agreement with colleagues. I listen to people and accept constructive criticisms. I am willing to learn from others. I am willing to undergo any training in order to acquire more knowledge that will help me perform my duties according to my role and I am ready to undertake on job training and to participate in seminars. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING When discharging my duties, I must understand and work within the policies and procedures of the Trust relating to Health and Safety, food Hygiene, Data protection, Infection Control and Equal Opportunities and Complaints Procedure. I understand the knowledge and the need for Prevention of Cross Infection, it is very important as it is costing the NHS a lot of money to fight this. During my duties when I support patients with personal care, cooking, laundry and feeding. In supporting them with personal care, I make sure I use (PPE) Personal Protection equipment. E.g. aprons, gloves etc for infection control purposes. I make sure I use different aprons and gloves for another patient and dispose them appropriately after I wash my hand in each care before attending to the next patient. When giving care I respect their dignity and choice. Before giving personal care, I have to ask them what they want for example a shower or bed wash. I have to report any change immediately I see in their body during personal care , things like bruises etc. doors and curtains must be shut properly, I give them a choice of what to wear. For those that need to be hoisted, I must explain to them what we are doing and why we are doing it and the hoisted has to be done by 2 people. I make use of regular supervision to be put in place to reflect on my practice and identify areas of my weaknesses and strengths to enable me to improve my services and skills. i wish to train further to enable me to perform better. I also work with multicultural background and have always considered their race religion and sex when attending to them. OTHER REQUIREMENTS I’m able to follow and undertake instructions to ensure that a high quality of standard is achieved. I am flexible in my approach and willing to work shifts based on rota which can be early, late or night. I am ready to do any relevant job when needed in other department like in the kitchen or some administrative jobs. when dealing with patients, I do it with honesty and empathy.
