I've been working in care for 18 years as a carer with people with disabilities. I have gained a wealth of knowledge working with people with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Downs Syndrome, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Autism. Each individual I work with is a person with unique qualities and abilities and this is what I love most about being a carer. I support clients with daily living and strive to enable independent living as much as practically possible. I have significant experience of people living with dementia, sight problems and personality disorders. As a carer, I regularly help with cooking, cleaning, personal care and assisting with social activities. Each day I aim to make someone smile. My philosophy in life is to work hard and be kind to yourself. Living and working in Nidderdale is a real bonus and there is nothing I love more than to go out and enjoy the fresh air. My love of gardening also keeps me fit. Whilst enjoying physical activities such as swimming, aquafit and walking, I always look to promote learning whatever the subject/interest may be. Whilst I have some experience of PEG feeding and STOMA care working with children with additional needs, i am looking at training to learn how to do this effectively with adults.
