Are you looking for a competent person you can trust to provide added support around the house for yourself or a loved one? I know from experience how difficult it can be. It shouldn’t be that way. So maybe I can help. I became the primary carer for a family member for precisely this reason. I was confident that I could do a far better job than the multiple care agencies that had been delivering his care. The outcome was that he flourished because I was not only patient and kind but had an aptitude to learn new skills and an ability to use my initiative. rather than ticking boxes for a list of tasks completed. I believe it demonstrated that having the right attitude, initiative, and the desire to learn and improve were equally, if not more, valuable than experience alone. I understand the importance of focusing on prevention e.g. falls, dehydration, etc rather than dealing with the consequences of preventable conditions. I have listed the key services I can offer as a carer and personal assistant: * personal care * medication prompting * cooking a nutritious meal * laundry and cleaning * shopping (on your behalf or assisted visits to the shops) * gardening * companionship Here’s a little about me: I relocated from London to the North East over 20 years ago and re-trained as a health and social care researcher. I gained my Masters in Health and Social Care Research Methods in 2008. My focus has been primarily the health and social care needs of older adults. At Newcastle University, I gained informed consent and interviewed over 100 older adults (aged 75+) in their own home for a cognitive and ageing study. At Northumbria University, I interviewed residents of a care home in Leeds to understand how they believed their care needs were being met. At home, I enjoy cooking, gardening (my wife and I had our own small gardening business tailored for older adults), walking, and creative writing. My family and I relocated to North Carolina, USA for five years. That’s me. What about you? If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. If I’m not the right carer for you right now, I hope you find the person to meet your needs.
