I thoroughly enjoy talking with older people and hearing their stories and how they lived their lives. I have been a carer on and off for 18 years now, although, I have been a carer of sorts since I was very young due to my own mother being disabled. I have worked in a nursing home setting, as well as in the community. I am happy to do personal care as well as social visits, shopping and light housework. I gained my NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care in 2009 while working in a nursing home. My experiences include giving personal care, prompting medication, assisting at mealtimes, using equipment such as stand aids and full hoists. I have cared for people with dementia, physical disabilities, Parkinson's and stroke, and feel very strongly that the client feels confident and safe in my care.
