I have always contributed to care/pastoral support settings whenever I am able, having volunteered with St. John Ambulance and in a nursing home and working as en escort accompanying teenagers with learning and physical disabilities on their journeys to and from school before joining the RAF in 2004...More I have always contributed to care/pastoral support settings whenever I am able, having volunteered with St. John Ambulance and in a nursing home and working as en escort accompanying teenagers with learning and physical disabilities on their journeys to and from school before joining the RAF in 2004. I applied to join the RAF as a Nurse but they weren’t recruiting at the time so I joined as a linguist and used my spare capacity/time to develop a pastoral skill set including Trauma Risk Management (Team Leader), Mental Health First Aid, Advanced Signposting, Applied Suicide Intervention and ED&I Advisor. I utilised these skills in setting up and managing a network of 14 volunteers within my workplace to offer mental health signposting and welfare support to colleagues. The majority of my experience in this regard comes from a year spent caring for someone with a Traumatic Brain Injury - reference available. I have also cared for family members throughout my life. Conditions include Dementia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Arthritis, Sight Loss and Self Harm & Suicide. I have Fibromyalgia, myself, which I manage very well but that is why I have refrained from opting for manual handling/overly physical work here. I pride myself on being a good, active listener and pragmatically coming up with solutions to problems, whatever they may be. Travel and experiencing new cultures is my main hobby but I’m also an avid fundraiser and volunteer with the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, who saved my friend’s life, and SSAFA, who do so much good for our serving members of the military, veterans and their families. Helping care for those in need is a rewarding and fulfilling way to spend any day and I look forward to meeting new people and positively contributing to our community.
