My life experience has led me to a role working in care. I previously helped to care for my disabled nephew, born with a brain disorder for 15 years. I went on to work as an administrator in a day centre for adults with learning difficulties for 25 years from 1986 to 2011 and as a carer from 2006 to...More My life experience has led me to a role working in care. I previously helped to care for my disabled nephew, born with a brain disorder for 15 years. I went on to work as an administrator in a day centre for adults with learning difficulties for 25 years from 1986 to 2011 and as a carer from 2006 to present day. I enjoy caring for others and often take the time to assist members of the public that may need help on and off public transport, crossing over the road, act as an advocate for someone who may not be vocal or helping someone who may need help dealing with personal issues. I am very flexible and always willing to stay after shift, without prior notice if an emergency arise. I am a good listener, and enjoy talks with an individual about their life. I have been trained in all fields of care. What I enjoy as a carer is the positive feedback I get from the individual and their family. During my role as a carer I have been nominated to take on the role as a care field supervisor due to my hard work and experiences. I have also been carer of the month on three occasions. My experience span over 30 years, working in a day centre and residential setting. The client groups I have experience with are learning and physical disability, the elderly, dementia care, mental health, children and families, alcohol and drug abuse. I have worked within local authority, care agencies and care companies. My role was to enable people to live independently in their own home by empower them to take part and control of their own lives. This would be by supporting people in personal care, toileting, medication handling, managing money through shopping, cleaning, waking night support, sitting to relieve live in carer, cooking etc. I have acquired various skills through training i.e. excellent communication skills as this is required for your day to run smoothly, organisational skills so tasks is carried out safely. I hold many certificates in care and continue to update them as they reach their expiry date. As a carer I consider myself to be upstanding and highly professional in all manner of my work.

Yvonne is a fantastic carer ; punctual, reliable and cares about the cared for person. Yvonne listens to what is required for the client and is patient, she also takes the time to put the client at ease and is adaptable if the patient is not willing to engage. She will also spend those extra minutes - plus! And ensures that everything is completed and client is settled.
