I am caring, patient and hardworking individual. I have been a Carer for 8 years, 2 years as a night carer and became a Senior Carer. Working at the nursing home was challenging as residents are all with neurological cases, such Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic brain injury, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke and many more. Duties are changing pads, tracheostomy care, stoma care, hoisting, manual handling, toileting, showering, taking vital signs and dressing. My responsibilities as a Senior carer are delegating the task, making sure hourly check has been done, care plans updated, training new carers, assisting nurses and making sure shifts running smoothly. After nursing home I have looked after young adult female with learning difficulties for 5 years and 7 months, she was 20 years old when I started. Duties are feeding when she’s not well and not able to feed herself. Toileting, showering, giving medications, taking her to the museums, cooking her meals, dressing, assisting her with her home works, taking her to her part time jobs and at her volunteering work. Looking after was very challenging at did require me enormous patience but also rewarding at the same time when she says thank you and I love you . And my current job is looking after an elderly Lady with dementia. Looking after my Lady is very rewarding as she so sweet, empathetic, kind and good humoured. My duties are assisting her in the toilet, showering, giving medications, preparing her meals that includes light cooking. Looking after individual who needs care is very rewarding, they may not say thank you all the time but tendering your love and care to them is already a fulfilling job. And being a Carer I think it’s in the blood and comes from the heart. And I’m looking forward for more challenging roles and responsibilities
