I love working with people and providing person centered care and support by focusing on their goals and what's important to them but also to enable them to do things for themselves to promote their independence I have currently over 20 years experience in Health and Social since leaving college but the past 11 years I have loved working as an Occupational Therapy Support Worker for the NHS in a local hospital supporting with safe and timely hospital discharges. This is achieved through providing advice, home assessments and issuing equipment which will help to maintain people's safety and independence. This is done by managing any long term needs and promoting further rehabilitation within their home environment to regain their confidence and strength with managing daily living tasks. I would like to think my greatest core skills and strengths are my interpersonal skills in being caring, compassionate and empathetic towards others needs and wishes but also having to understand the fears and anxieties which families may have for people living vulnerable and alone. I always like the phrase " treat others as you wish to be treated". Having worked in the NHS I am aware of the importance of legislative frameworks such as the importance of Safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act. Now you know a little about me professionally, you may like to get to know me as a person. For my personal enjoyment, I love craft and after completing a year of Architectural and Exhibition Signwork many years ago, continue to enjoy some bits as well as other craft work. I enjoy the magical wonders of the world and nature which has evolved during me walking my pet whippet Winston. I also like gardening and plants but also more active hobbies such as bike riding, kayaking and horse-riding when I am more able. Primarily I am looking to work in the Plymouth area, working weekdays or weekends but preferably on a short term basis or a one off episode of care. After having worked in the Occupational Therapy Department, ,my knowledge is in rehabilitation and equipment which can help people manage more independently at home, so I am Looking to work with more mobile clients (such as using a wheeled frame/ trolley/ four wheeled walker/ crutches/ sticks). I am willing to work in both a Personal Assistant role or that of a Carer and would also enjoy short term support such as supporting people being discharged from hospital. I am always willing and enjoy learning new skills as well as meeting new people. Now you've read my profile and if you're happy with what you've read about me and you feel I would be a good match for your need, please don't hesitate to get in contact.

Very professional and caring in her approach. A genuine person who wants the best for the client, and so able to empathise with them, and thereby better understand their needs, whilst building a good, trusting relationship. Also, energetic and enthusiastic, with no job too big. Extremely grateful for the help. Thank You!

I contacted Sonya and she responded within a few hours. She introduced herself to my mother of whom needed care immediately. Sonya is a very professional, friendly helpful carer and has supported my mother very well in all aspects of the care needed. I would totally recommend Sonya.

Being out of the UK and the only child, it was extremely difficult to find an emergency carer when my parents' live in carer went down with complications with Covid. Sonya was extremely professional, caring and, according to family members, a joy to have with my parents. She kept me fully informed every day of progress as Mum had just come out of hospital and she managed to coax Mum into far greater mobility. She is very knowledgeable as a former OT, caring, kind and supportive. Recommend ++++
