I have been caring for people for five years now. My clients have consisted of two broad categories: 1) The younger 30 to 50 year-olds with the following conditions: autism, epilepsy, down syndrome, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy, and 2) The elderly mainly 80 and 90 year-olds who are variously afflicted with: dementia, Parkinson's and arthritis. In both categories, mobility was an issue so I have experience with moving and handling equipment such as hoists and driving the purpose-built vehicles for wheelchairs. I am a friendly, inquisitive person with a real sense of humour, who is really interested in your life story, and how to help you to further enrich and enjoy your life. I have a "coaching personality", believing that every person's situation can be improved, whether it is emotionally, mentally or physically. So I enjoy having fun by challenging my clients patiently and gently in areas of potential self-development that are relevant to their particular condition, whether it is mental and memory training or physical exercise or whatever. When it comes to the work of caring, I like to always be on hand, ready to assist without being overbearing. I like to ensure that all living and working areas are kept neat and clean. I am prepared to perform any care-related tasks no matter how menial they are. I do like to get things done and not allow them to "hang in the air." I enjoy cooking, especially in such a way as to ensure that food is both tasty and has not lost any nutrition. I am originally from farming stock in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. I qualified as a Forester and worked in that profession for over 30 years. I am married to my dear wife Bridget and we have two children, David and Gail whom we home schooled, and they both went on to achieve Zoology honours degrees. As far as my hobbies and interests are concerned, I love nature and am very interested in environmental issues. I am especially interested in organic farming and how it promotes environmental protection and sustainability. Physical exercise is an essential part of my life, especially when combined with nature-related activities such as going on walks with Bubble and Squeak (sausage dogs). I also enjoy classical music, reading mainly nature and spiritual books and playing brain games. Other information: I have a full and clean driving license and would enjoy taking you to meet with your friends. I am a non-smoker. Please get in touch with me, I'd love to hear from you.

Johan was great company and a a good carer. I particularly enjoyed his food and conversation. He was practical and attentative to detail and encouraged me positively in my ongoing rehab. I would recommend Johan to other users.

Johan has fitted in very well with Stephen. He appreciates his needs and has proved to be a good companion and carer and I would have no hesitation in recommending him Anne Deakin-Hyde
