LA23 3ET 285559 I am Friendly, Empathetic and a Good Listener. A Lancashire lad by birth, with my Parents buying the Squires House in Pilling back in 1963 and creating one of the original Country House Hotels. After attending Blackpool Catering College, joined Trust Houses Forte as a Management trainee at Leeds / Bradford Post House, then went up the management ladder to the Swan Grasmere, Belsfield Windermere, and Waterhead Ambleside. After spending five years at Prince of Wales & Royal Clifton Hotels in Southport, I went on for 13 years as the Tenant of the Albert, Bowness-on-Windermere My son Richard is now Director – Estates, of the Birtenshaw Group, who provides a creative and dynamic range of Care and Education services for children and young adults with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). Normally, based in Bolton, but has responsibilities for the newly built Merseyside site. I have lived in Bowness-on-Windermere, in the central English Lake District for over 50 years. Some may call it paradise, but with over a million visitors each year on the promenade, some 200 yards from home, it has its moments. 8.00pm is so different to High Noon! To relax, besides walking Sky, a Therapy dog, in this amazing area, in the woods just over a mile away, she loves it, as it a world away from the chaos of the village. I have a Lowrey Grand Marquee organ, which is top of the range machine. More whistles, buttons and sounds than you can play. Very rewarding. My audience usually puts her head between her paws and goes to sleep, it is so relaxing for us both. Having retired from an active hospitality role, I work with Shared Lives, part of the Health and Social Care umbrella of Westmorland & Furness Council. My training is bang up to date, with specialised training in Autism and Dementia. In November 2019, a young autistic gentleman moved in with me, and together we have built the foundations of as strong future for him, as he now started his 2nd year at the University of Cumbria in Carlisle. I also have day respite “clients”, one of whom had Dementia, and it was suggested by his wife, (a judge at Crufts) that I should take Sky’s journey further. We applied to Therapy Dogs Nationwide (TDN) in August 2023, and the rest as they say is history. Sky is a ten-year-old lady Springer Spaniel, who I rescued in November 2022, and loves the attention she gets whenever we are out. My aunt lived in a nursing home until her death earlier this year, and on our visits, she was adored by all the resident’s. I love to explore the “hidden” parts of the English Lake District, but often venture further afield into the Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Borders and the Fylde Coast, with a full, clean driving licence. Please get in touch, if you think I could help you.

DG13 0DH 65594 Caring for others is one of the most rewarding careers I have encountered yet! I am an energetic hard working individual who believes no job is too big or too small. I pay attention to detail and take care in listening to the needs of those I care for. For me the most rewarding part of what I do is about building meaningful relationships with those in my care. I love to engage with your stories of days gone by and learn about the things which matter most to you most. I am a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on but I also love to bring joy, light heartedness and a good sense of humour to our days. When it comes to daily care, I love routine and am more than happy to fit in with yours. I will be there to help you get you ready for your day, I am able to assist with all aspects of personal care in a respectful, dignified and discreet way to suits your needs. We will enjoy nutritious meals together, I'm no master chef but I do enjoy pottering around the kitchen. Days will be spent in ways which make you happy, be that enjoying visits with your friends or enjoying a cuppa while watching your favourite show on telly, reading or getting our hands dirty in the garden. I am creative and crafty and also enjoy getting out and about whether to explore or walk or just to sit and watch the world go by, so hopefully we can enjoy these activities together too. I am there to help you, or your loved one every step of the way and at the same time I also believe a fulfilled life is about balance and maintaining as much of your independence and autonomy as possible, so hopefully together we can make this happen. My heart is to bring joy, a laugh and companionship to those in my care and for you to continue living a rich and fulfilled life in your most precious space called Home.

DG5 4BS 4459 I live in Dalbeattie and am happy to travel around Dumfries & Galloway for overnight care, and to Ayre, Cumbria and the North East areas for live-in cover. Please note I do not do waking nights. I offer respite live-in and overnight support and holiday and sickness cover for regular carers. I do not do short visits but I'm happy to discuss your needs if longer periods are needed. I'm pet-friendly, very happy to help look after animals and to cook and/or bake, and to help with gardening, cleaning and tidying, or help with personal care - anything you need, just ask! Everyone is unique and has different needs so the rates given are a guide and always include, of course, insurance, DBS check, Curam fees and VAT. I am also sometimes available for Christmas and New Year cover at my standard rates... please just ask. Please note that I am mask exempt and will not be taking any vaccinations. Not having any grandparents I was drawn to older people as a child and would visit older neighbours and help with ironing, tidying around and filling out forms. I was always fascinated by their early life experiences and loved hearing their stories. On leaving school I went into farming, then to University to study Countryside Management, after which I took a few years out to volunteer in my home town, training as an advisor at my local Citizens' Advice Bureau and with the WRVS delivering Meals On Wheels. In 1997 I moved to London and spent an exciting five years as a Transport Planner and then four years in the Lake District National Park Authority as Traffic & Transport Officer. I started a family in 2002. In 2011 I started working for a local community care organisation, had first aid and medication training and quickly became a Senior Carer taking on Out of Hours management and staff rotas. I then spent two years as a Medical Secretary at a GP practice, consolidating my medical knowledge, and left there to spend the past five years looking after my progressively ill mother, who was nursed in bed with a permanent catheter for the last two years of her life. I was her sole advocate, had Power of Attorney for both financial and health & welfare, and managed her personal affairs as well as her care. I enjoy cleaning, organising, cooking and helping people to get the very most out of life in a limiting situation... I have seen both sides of caring: as both a carer and a broker of care packages. I care about timekeeping, doing things properly and providing added value. Rather than be a time-pressured employee of an agency, I relish the opportunity to make meaningful connections with people and develop trusted friendships: this was what I wanted for my mum. I have a current Enhanced Disclosure certificate and in my previous employment as a community carer I completed medication and moving & handling training, but do not have the paperwork to hand at the moment. I am presently learning Italian, renovating my house and building a wildlife garden and pond, and I enjoy 1940s, 1950s music and classical piano.
