I feel rewarded when I have enabled my client to live a full and happy life. At present I am looking for a Companion/housekeeper/supporter position with clients with minimal disability issues and perhaps early dementia. My background involved caring for many family members who lived with chronic health issues. My career was mainly in administration (in the NHS and Social Services) and I also gained a degree in my late 30s. I am also a qualified TESOL (Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages). I decided on a change of career six years ago as I considered I had the life skills and experience to offer support to elderly clients and their families. Most my clients were living with Alzheimer's. This environment can be demanding and challenging, but with empathy, resourcefulness and common sense I have succeeded in creating a calm environment for them to flourish within. Through an Alzheimer's Awareness course and extensive reading I continue to increase my knowledge regarding this condition. Above all, I would say I am continuingly learning from my clients. Everything I do is completely 'client centred' with the aim of maintaining dignity, agency and independence. I demonstrate initiative, am organised and reliable and like to think I have a warm and friendly nature. I work well within an integrated 'team', which usually consists of family members and health professionals. I am a competent cook and can adapt to any specific dietary requirements. In my spare time I enjoy writing (mainly short stories and poetry) and I have a great love of history, architecture and natural history (I am a member of the National Trust). I have good listening, communication and observational skills and I am well travelled.
