Being able to treat individuals as I would wish to be treated is fundamental to my approach. Everyone is different, and so are their needs. A sense of humour is particularly important.
I recently worked in palliative care and, although it was challenging, I found it fulfilling to spend time with individuals and provide them with the best care possible.
I have also worked with continence needs, including catheters and convences.
I am quite happy to work with clients who have pets, but this would be assessed on an individual basis, especially in cases where dogs may be aggressive.
I am eager to learn new skills.
My availability during the day is Monday to Friday, and I am available for overnights from Sunday to Thursday. I would only expect travel expenses if the client is more than 10 miles away.
At present, I am working with a 95-year-old gentleman who has short-term memory loss, mobility difficulties, and a catheter. I visit for three hours a week and stay overnight when needed. Occasionally, I assist with personal care for an 83-year-old gentleman when his carer is away, as well as doing waking nights with a lady who has dementia.
Being creative and enjoying music are important to me, but I also appreciate a wide variety of activities. Currently, I play Countdown with a gentleman who, despite his short-term memory loss, excels in the game, as well as doing crosswords.
