I currently have over a years’ experience in social care. During this time, I learnt many skills centred around the personal care of the elderly and vulnerable. I have experience with administration of medication, catheter emptying/bag changing as well as hoisting. Depending on the clients’ specifications, I am comfortable using a hoist solo or if required with another individual. I am capable in the kitchen and would be able to prepare meals if required. I have a willingness to learn new skills and I am not afraid of new challenges. My son has recently been diagnosed with Autism. This has given me the understanding of the struggles people have that are not always obvious. It has also made me a more patient individual with the ability to understand and empathise when an individual is struggling mentally as well as physically. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances I had to pause my role as a community carer to be a stay-at-home mum during the pandemic. I worked for the NHS for 20 years as a Band 4 Health Care Assistant, looking after older people especially those living with dementia and people with learning and physical disabilities. I now work as a live in carer/PA while still covering bank shifts for the NHS. I have experience in hoisting and medication support. I have worked with doctors and social workers to carry out the assessment for the patient. I absolutely love what I do, looking after people that need my support. I help them with their day-to-day activities including washing, toileting, meal preparation, feeding, making bed, cooking, domestic tasks, medication, admin, taking to appointments/social activities and general errands running. I am a quick learner, and that helps me to settle in to my live-in roles quickly. I use person centred approach with my clients and relate really well with families because I am a good team player. I am friendly, reliable, trustworthy and empathetic. I drive and travel for live-in work throughout the UK as long as travelling expenses are covered both ways by my clients. I do not use my own car for transporting clients however I am happy and able to drive automatic cars only as long as I am covered under the clients car insurance. I am able to cover public holidays at a rate of double time.
