I bring several years of hands-on experience supporting individuals with complex needs, alongside a strong commitment to delivering compassionate, person-centred care. I am currently employed as a support worker for an adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder, a role I have undertaken for the past two years with Autism Initiatives. In this position, I provided comprehensive support including personal care, medication administration, assistance with meal preparation and nutrition, and support with daily living activities. The role required both day and night shifts, including sleepover shifts, as the individual required 24/7 support. I found this work extremely rewarding, as it allowed me to make a meaningful and positive impact on the individual’s quality of life. Supporting daily outings, whether to structured activities or for routine tasks such as weekly shopping, helped promote independence, wellbeing, and social inclusion. A particularly fulfilling aspect of this role was building a strong, trusting relationship with the person I supported. I take pride in my ability to develop rapport, offer companionship, and work collaboratively within a team environment. I consistently apply a person-centred approach to my practice and bring empathy, patience, professionalism, and an appropriate sense of humour to my work. In addition to this, I have four years’ experience working with the homeless population through the Simon Community. This role significantly developed my understanding of mental health challenges, addiction, and trauma-informed care, as well as my ability to support individuals from diverse backgrounds and life circumstances. During this time, I was trained in administering naloxone, performing CPR, and supporting individuals during life-threatening situations. This experience strengthened my resilience, communication skills, and ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. On a personal level, I also lived with an older adult in his eighties for five years, during which time we developed a close and meaningful friendship. This experience further reinforced my belief in the importance of mutual respect, companionship, and learning from people of all ages and backgrounds. In conclusion, I am committed to providing warm, respectful, and high-quality care, underpinned by empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support others to live fulfilling lives. I believe my experience, values, and dedication to social care would allow me to make a positive contribution to your organisation.
